Gymnastics Finishes Third in MAC Regular Season Standings
March 18, 2013 | Gymnastics
Cleveland, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team notched the third-best record in the Mid-American Conference this year, finishing third in the regular season.
The Falcons totaled a 3-3 record against MAC opponents, winning dual meets against Ball State, Eastern Michigan and most recently, Western Michigan. The team fell short in meets against Kent State, Central Michigan and Northern Illinois. This year's record is a considerable improvement from last season's 1-5 effort.
"I am so pleased that our team has made such an improvement in the MAC," said head coach Kerrie Beach. "Finishing third in the regular season will really give us confidence heading into the MAC Championships. It is a credit to our athletes, coaches and staff for the hard work put in all year to get to this point. Our program is growing and improving and this is just one more step in the process."
This year's Falcons are rounding into form towards the end of the season, as three of the team's last four scores have been above 194.500. Prior to this season, the last time Bowling Green recorded a score that high was in 2005.
The team's season-best score came on Saturday, when the Falcons earned a decisive victory over Western Michigan, 195.175-192.950. That score tied for sixth-highest in school history and was the best mark of Beach's career as head coach.
The Falcons are currently ranked fourth in the MAC standings with a regional qualifying score of 194.035 - the team's highest end-of-season RQS since 2004. The team aims to top off a successful season with a strong showing at the MAC Championships, hosted by Western Michigan on Saturday, March 23 at 2 p.m.
