Softball Heads To Ann Arbor For Battle With No. 13 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University softball team will take its four-game winning streak to Ann Arbor this Wednesday in a single game matchup with the Michigan Wolverines. Michigan is ranked No. 13 in the ESPN/USA Softball Poll, and currently holds an overall record of 24-7. The Falcons are 5-29 in the all-time series against the Wolverines, with a record of 0-4 under head coach Shannon Salsburg. Since Salsburg's arrival in 2007, Bowling Green is 4-12 against the BIG Ten, earning two wins against Purdue and Michigan State.
In their last meeting, the Falcons lost to Michigan by a score of 12-2 in Ann Arbor on March 28, 2012. Pitcher Jamie Kertes started the contest, going 1.2 innings and giving up eight runs on nine hits. Kertes went 1-for-2 at the plate, and drove in one of the Falcons' two runs in the contest. Outfielder Katie Yoho and first baseman Paige Berger collected the other two Falcon hits.
Last Week
Bowling Green State (12-7) swept Wright State last Friday evening, beating the Raiders by a score of 2-0 and 2-1 to push the Falcons' winning streak to four games. Senior Paige Berger led Bowling Green with two hits in game one, including a double and two runs scored. Sophomore Paris Imholz secured the win for the Falcons, allowing just three hits and striking out five in 6.0 innings of play. Sophomore Jamie Kertes earned her first save of the season, holding the Raiders scoreless in the final inning of play.
Freshman Marisa Shook helped the Falcons earn the sweep with a strong offensive performance in game two, going 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. Berger also had a strong game, hitting her second double of the day. Kertes started the contest, giving up just three hits and striking out two in five innings, also earning a save after re-entering the game in the final frame. Imholz (9-1) picked up her second win of the day, allowing just one hit in 2.0 innings of relief.
Michigan's Last Outing
A trio of home runs, including a pair from freshman Sierra Romero, and a five-inning shutout from sophomore Sara Driesenga delivered the 14th-ranked University of Michigan softball team a 9-0 win over Purdue today (Friday, March 22) at the Wilpon Complex, home of Alumni Field. The matchup marked U-M's home and Big Ten opener.
Third Times A Charm
Sophomore Paris Imholz was named the MAC East Pitcher Of The Week on Monday morning, giving her the honor for the third-straight week. Over the past three weeks Imholz is 7-1 in six starts, throwing three complete games earning two shutouts. She has allowed just 10 earned runs in 59.2 innings pitched, giving her a 1.17 ERA over that 13-game stretch. Imholz's three-time MAC POW selection marks the first time under coach Shanon Salsburg that a player has earned the award three times in a season. Imholz now has four in her career, tying Hayley Wiemer for the most all-time under coach Salsburg.
