Youth Prevails At Raleigh Relays

Raleigh, N.C. – Bowling Green's freshmen posted strong performances on the first day of the Raleigh Relays Friday, hosted by North Carolina State. The track and field team took part in one of the largest meets in the country and will conclude the event Saturday.
Three redshirt freshmen competed in the 5000 and all ran personal bests in the event. Andrea Alt led the way with a time of 17:28.26, placing sixth out of 25 competitors in her flight. Jasmine Redman followed in eighth place at 17:30.45 and Kendra Kezur was 12th in 17:48.73.
Another redshirt freshman, Maria Meredith, posted a personal best in the 1500 with a time of 4:42.42 to placed 19th out of 128 runners. Freshman Demetra Taylor was 20th of 88 runners in the 100 hurdles with a PR time of 14.39 seconds.
“We had a good start to the meet today,” BGSU head coach Lou Snelling said. “It was great to see a lot of the youth take nice steps this early in the outdoor season and in their careers.”
Along with those results, junior Jeanette Pettigrew just missed the MAC automatic qualifying time of 11.95 seconds in the 100, finishing 26th of 117 runners with a time of 12.00. Freshman Tiera Parker followed with a season-best time of 12.55. She also placed 14th of 63 in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet-3.5.
In the 400, both Brittany Sinclair and Allison Weimer broke 57 seconds as Sinclair ran 56.79 and Weimer finished at 56.99. Taylor Rambo followed in 57.13.
Bowling Green will continue to compete in the Raleigh Relays Saturday.
