Falcons Make Strides In Regular Season Stretch Run
April 20, 2013 | Women's Track and Field
Columbus, Ohio / Walnut, Calif. – Most of the Bowling Green State University track and field team concluded competition at the Jesse Owens Classic Saturday, while hammer thrower Brooke Pleger made a splash on the national stage across the country at the Mt. SAC Relays in California.
Pleger, who entered the weekend ranked No. 2 in the country in the hammer throw, was selected to compete in the elite hammer throw field at the Mt. SAC Relays. Pleger was one of just three current collegians selected for the field of 12. While she did not match her personal best throw of 219-feet-9, set two weeks ago, Pleger did finish seventh overall with a toss of 213-5. She placed second among the college competitors and only seven collegians have thrown further than that distance this year.
Sultana Frizell of Team Canada led the way with a distance of 234-10 and UCLA's Ida Storm was the top collegian with a fifth place finish at 223-3. All six of Pleger's throws were at least 205 feet and her third and last toss went an identical 213-5 for her best of the day.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Falcons competed in Columbus at the Jesse Owens Classic. Tiera Parker set a season best in the triple jump with a leap of 37-2.25, a distance that has her ranked 10th in the Mid-American Conference in the event and placed her seventh at the meet.
As well, the 4x400 relay team of Taylor Rambo, Demetra Taylor, Brittany Sinclair and Allison Weimer had a season-best time of 3:54.65 to finish fourth. Brittany Sinclair ended 10th in the 400 and Natalie Sommerville was 11th in the 400 hurdles.
BGSU is scheduled to conclude the regular season during another split squad weekend coming up. The Falcons will compete at the Hillsdale College Gina Relays Thursday through Saturday and at the Ashland Alumni Open Friday and Saturday.
