Falcons Host Toledo In Crucial MAC Weekend

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University softball team (24-18, 7-9 MAC) will play the University of Toledo in two games over a two-day span, starting with a 2 p.m. contest on Saturday and ending with a 1 p.m. start time on Sunday. The Falcons lead the all-time series with the Rockets, holding a record of 62-34, including a record of 12-1 under head coach Shannon Salsburg.
Bowling Green swept the season series last season, going 3-0 against the Rockets including a victory at the MAC Tournament.
The Falcons defeated Toledo in their first meeting last year, dropping the Rockets by a score of 7-1. Hannah Fulk led the Falcons with three RBI, while senior Melissa West finished the day 2-for-3 at the plate, recording an RBI and a run. Jamie Kertes recorded three strikeouts, and allowed just three hits in the win, surrendering just one run in 4.0 innings of work. Paris Imholz picked up the save, recording two strikeouts and allowing just one hit in the final two innings.
Bowling Green completed the regular season sweep of Toledo in their second meeting, defeating the Rockets by a score of 3-1. Katie Yoho was 1-for-3 on the day, including a double and a run scored. Paris Imholz picked up the complete-game win, allowing just three hits and one earned run to go along with three strikeouts.
The Orange and Brown defeated Toledo in their final meeting of 2012, dropping the Rockets by a score of 5-0 in the MAC Tournament. Hannah Fulk went 2-for-4 in the contest, including her 14th home run of the season. Paige Berger collected a double in a 2-for-4 day, while Adrienne Dick went 1-for-3 with her first home run of the season. Jamie Kertes picked up the win, recording four strikeouts while allowing just four hits in 5.0 innings of work. Paris Imholz came in to finish the contest, allowing just two hits and striking out two in the final two innings of play.
Weekly Review
Bowling Green split its doubleheader with IPFW Tuesday afternoon, falling to the Mastodons by a score of 6-4 in game one before rebounding with a 7-1 win in game two. The split pushes the Falcons' overall record to 24-18, with a standing record of 7-9 in Mid-American Conference play. IPFW moves to 24-12 overall, with a standing record of 7-3 in the Summit League.
In game one, freshman Marisa Shook led the Falcons with a career-best four RBI thanks to a 2-for-3 performance. One of Shook's hits included a two-run home run, her third of the season. Senior Paige Berger also went 2-for-3 in the contest, collecting two singles with two runs scored. Sophomore Jamie Kertes (9-11) was credited with the loss after giving up six runs (one earned), while striking out five in 6.1 innings of play.
The Orange and Brown came back with a vengeance in game two, dominating the Mastodons by a 7-1 margin. Berger led the Falcons with two hits, going 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBI. Sophomore Paris Imholz (15-6) picked up the complete-game victory after allowing just one run and four hits, while also earning four strikeouts.

Hannah Fulk
Senior Hannah Fulk, a Jeromesville, Ohio native, goes into this weekend's series with a cumulative batting average of .321, earning 170 career hits in 186 games for the Orange and Brown. Fulk currently ranks third on the all-time runs list with 132 runs scored, while her 38-career doubles put her in the top five in the history of the program. Fulk's 42 walks last season set a new single-season record for Bowling Green, while her 15 home runs also set a new benchmark, accounting for the highest single-season total in program history. Thanks to four-straight seasons with 25 walks or more, Fulk now also sits just one walk shy of tying the highest total in school history, earning 120 walks over her career. Fulk was named to the All-MAC Second Team and MAC All-Freshman Team in 2010, and was most recently named to the Mid-American Conference All-First Team in 2012….A candidate for MAC Player Of The Year in 2012, Fulk currently holds a 3.80 GPA in mathematics.
Paige Berger
Senior Paige Berger, a native of Rootstown, Ohio, has played in 188 games for the Orange and Brown, earning a .333 career batting average over that span, which ranks fifth all-time in BG history…Berger ranks second all-time with 334 total bases, while her 119 career RBIs give her the third most in the history of the program. Berger has finished first on the Falcons in home runs twice during her career, including a 12 home run season in 2010 and an 11 home run season in 2011. In total, Berger has accumulated 35 home runs over her career, giving her the most in the history of Bowling Green softball. She was named a First Team All-MAC selection and the MAC Freshman of the Year in 2010, as well as a Second-Team All-MAC selection in 2011. An early childhood education major, Berger currently carries a 3.84 GPA.
Andrea Arney
Senior Andrea Arney, a Navarre, Ohio native, goes into this weekend's series with 16 career home runs, ranking just outside the top-five in the history of the program. Arney has also accumulated 73 career RBIs, 156 total bases and 18 stolen bases to go along with 11 career doubles. Arney led the team with 39 RBIs last year…accounting for the third highest total in single-season history...she also tied for second on the team with 10 home runs in 2012, marking the first time in Bowling Green history that multiple players hit double-digit home runs in a single season. An early childhood education major, Arney currently carries a 3.94 GPA.
Courtney Cox
Senior Courtney Cox, A Twinsburg, Ohio native, has played in 77 games over her career with the Falcons. Cox has become a valuable threat on the base paths as a pinch runner, scoring 21 runs and adding five steals in five attempts for a perfect stolen-base percentage. An exercise science major, Cox currently holds a 3.56 GPA.
Adrienne Dick
Senior Adrienne Dick, a native of Delta, Ohio, has played in 121 games for the Orange and Brown, with 110 career starts. Dick has earned 33 hits as a Falcon, including three doubles and seven home runs for 22 career RBIs. She has also accumulated 57 total bases to go along with an impressive .986 fielding percentage behind the plate
Jessica Odell
Senior Jessica Odell, a native of Wichita, Kansas, has been a part of the Falcon softball family for the better part of four seasons. Odell has appeared in a handful of games for Bowling Green, facing over 50 batters during her time with the Orange and Brown. Odell currently serves as the president of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, a group that serves as the primary link between student-athletes and the administration in order to enhance the experience of all student-athletes and to promote efficient communication. Odell, a political science major, currently carries a 3.88 GPA.
