BGSU's three signees get it done on the court
Kennedy Kirkpatrick (Lawrence, Kansas) finished her high-school career with 1,046 career points and 254 career assists. The 5-10 guard averaged 13.2 points, four rebounds and 4.1 assists to help Free State High School to a 16-6 record and the sub state championship game. Kirkpatrick earned All-Sunflower League First-Team honors for the third consecutive year, and also was named to the all-state 6A (the large-school division) second team. She played in the Missouri/Kansas All-Star game, where she led the Kansas team with 14 points. Kirkpatrick set school career records for assists, field goals and three-point field goals made, and also broke Free State's single-game assists record.
Rachel Konieczki (Rockford, Ill.) scored 17 points to help her team to an 82-80 victory in the Rising Stars senior all-star game. A 5-4 point guard, she was named second-team All-State in Class 3A by both the Associated Press and the Illinois Basketball Coaches Association as a senior at Rockford Lutheran H.S. Konieczki earned first-team honors in Class 2A as a junior after being named to the second team in her sophomore season, but moved up a class prior to her senior year. Konieczki averaged 17.2 points, 3.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.7 steals in her senior year, as Lutheran finished with a 22-7 record. In addition to the Rising Stars game, she also played in the All-Stars Classic and the IBCA All-Star Game.
The Falcons of head coach Jennifer Roos, as mentioned, went 24-11 overall in '12-13. BGSU was 11-5 in MAC play, and the Brown and Orange earned a berth in the WNIT, advancing to national postseason play for the ninth consecutive March. BG advanced to the third round of the 64-team tournament with wins over SMU and Duquesne, before losing a three-point decision to eventual tournament champion Drexel.
Roos and the Falcons lose the services of four seniors off of the 2012-13 team, but will add Kirkpatrick, Konieczki, Siefker and Erika Donovan to the active roster in the fall. Donovan (Northside, Texas), a transfer from North Carolina State University, sat out the 2012-13 season at BGSU and has three years of eligibility remaining.
