Dean, Falcons Sign Drayton to National Letter of Intent

Pennsylvania native to join BGSU tennis program
“We are very excited to welcome Hannah to the BG tennis family,” said Dean. “She personifies the athletic and academic attributes of Falcon tennis. Hannah is a talented player who works hard and will contribute to our success immediately.”
Drayton, a native of Valley Forge, Pa., is wrapping up her senior year at Harriton High School for coach Jack Ladden. A two-time team MVP, she captained the team as a senior, and helped the Rams to the semifinals of the state championships for the second consecutive year. Harriton moved up to Class AAA in 2012-13 after competing at the Class AA level previously. Harriton advanced to the state quarterfinals in Drayton's sophomore season.
During her junior year, Drayton won the PIAA District 1 Class AA singles championship. She also captured the Central League singles crown, and the team won the district title that year, achieving that milestone for the 11th consecutive season, and finished with a 19-2 record.
This past fall, the Rams fell in the Class AAA district final, but still advanced to the state tournament and advanced to the semifinals. Harriton captured seven consecutive state championships in Class AA from 2004-10. That 2010 title saw Drayton, as a sophomore, play at the second singles flight. She won her matches in both the semifinals and the championship round by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores as the Rams won the team title.
Drayton has been ranked as high as 160th in the nation by TennisRecruiting.net during her career. She plans to major in communications at BGSU. Drayton has three siblings, including a pair of older brothers and a twin sister.
Drayton is the third student-athlete Dean and the Falcons have signed for 2013-14. Harley Hutchison (Joliet, Ill.) and Brittany Plaszewski (St. Charles, Ill.) inked with BGSU during the early signing period in November.
The 2012-13 Falcon tennis team put together arguably the best season in program history. Dean and the Falcons finished 17-5 overall, setting a school record for wins in a season. BGSU tied for second in the Mid-American Conference regular-season standings, earned the second seed for the MAC Championships and advanced all the way to the championship match of the league tourney -- all program firsts. Dean and assistant coach Cindy Yonker had four seniors – Maddy Eccleston, Katie Grubb, Mary Hill and Jade Johnson – on the eight-woman squad in 2012-13.
In addition to the three newcomers, BGSU will have four returnees on the 2013-14 team. Nikki Chiricosta and Emily Reuland will be seniors, while Katie Brozovich and Drew Fillis will enter their sophomore seasons at BG in '13-14.
