Carmack, Fowler Named BGSU Women's Soccer Captains for 2013
July 31, 2013 | Women's Soccer
Bowling Green State University women's soccer coach Lindsay Basalyga has announced her team's captains for the upcoming season. Alyssa Carmack and Jenny Fowler will serve as co-captains of the 2013 Falcons.
The captains were chosen by their teammates as well as the coaching staff.
"I'm excited about the leadership we have in place moving into this fall," said Basalyga. "Both Alyssa and Jenny emerged as leaders throughout the spring season and their work rate in training, personal discipline, and ability to hold themselves and their teammates accountable both on and off the field was seen in the eyes of their peers.
"These two have seen a lot throughout their careers at BG which has prepared them for this role. I trust that they will work hard, as captains, to uphold our core values and continue to establish our team culture as we progress through the fall season."
Carmack, a senior, has been a starter in each of her first three years with the Falcons. She has played in 58 of BGSU's 59 matches since arriving on campus, and has started 56-straight games dating to early in her freshman season of 2010. A central defender, Carmack has led the team in minutes played in each of the last two seasons. She was off the field for a total of roughly 30 minutes over the last two years combined. A native of Miamisburg, Ohio (Miamisburg H.S.), Carmack has one career assist.
Fowler, a fifth-year senior, is a team co-captain for the second consecutive season. A native of Grove City, Ohio (Central Crossing H.S.), she played in all 19 matches last season, making 17 starts for the Brown and Orange. Fowler, who was injured during preseason practices in 2009, has played in a total of 57 matches as a Falcon, including 19 in each of the last three seasons. She has made 45 career starts during that time. Fowler was named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Team last fall.
For the Falcons, the 2013 season begins with three scrimmages, including a pair at Cochrane Field. BGSU will sandwich home exhibitions vs. Wright State (Aug. 13) and Case Western Reserve (Aug. 22) around a trip to Indiana State (Aug. 17). The regular season begins with a match at Cleveland State on Sunday, Aug. 25, and the home portion of the regular-season slate begins the following weekend, as BG hosts Butler on Saturday, Aug. 31.
The 2013 schedule also includes home games against Evansville (Sept. 22), Eastern Michigan (Oct. 4), Western Michigan (Oct. 6), Northern Illinois (Oct. 11), Toledo (Oct. 13), Ball State (Oct. 25) and Miami (Oct. 27). All Friday home matches are scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m., with the Sunday contests slated to start at 1:00 p.m. The Butler match will commence at 4:00 p.m.
