BGSU closes exhibition schedule with home match on Thursday night
Host Indiana State University scored a pair of first-half goals on set pieces, en route to a 3-0 win over the Bowling Green State University women's soccer team Saturday afternoon (Aug. 17). The scrimmage was held at ISU's Memorial Stadium.

"It's disappointing to give up three goals on set pieces," said BGSU head coach Lindsay Basalyga. But, on the positive side, our back four weren't broken down much in the run of play, and our goalkeepers made saves to help keep us in the game.
The Sycamores got on the scoreboard with just under 19 minutes gone. After a BG foul, Kayla Welch's free kick from the right side of the pitch found Maddie Orf running into the 18-yard box, and Orf's low one-timer found the back of the net and gave the home team a lead it would not relinquish.
ISU doubled the lead just under 10 minutes later, and that goal also began with a free kick by Welch. This time, her ball found Abby Reed, who cut back to elude BGSU freshman goalkeeper Jenna DiTusa and rolled her shot into the net.
The final goal came with just under six minutes left in the match. After a BG foul in the box, Kate Johnson slotted home a penalty kick to close the scoring.
The home side was credited with a 26-7 advantage in total shots, and the Sycamores enjoyed an 11-2 margin in shots on goal. BGSU's three 'keepers -- DiTusa, Michelle Denley and Lauren Cadel -- each saw action in the match and combined to make a total of 11 saves on the afternoon.
"We are still working to find the system that will work best for us this fall while challenging our players to be more disciplined in possession and transition," said Basalyga. "We are looking forward to our final exhibition to put a few more pieces of the puzzle together before the regular season begins."
BGSU will close the exhibition schedule on Thursday night (Aug. 22), hosting Case Western Reserve University at Cochrane Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.
More information on the BGSU-ISU match will be available later Saturday afternoon.
