The Falcons of first-year head coach Lindsay Basalyga return 11 letterwinners, including eight starters, from a year ago. The 2012 club finished with an overall record of 1-17-1 and a MAC mark of 0-10-1. Ten of the Falcons' losses, including six in conference play, came by a single goal.
Miami was picked to win the East Division regular-season title, while Toledo was tabbed to capture the West Division crown. The 2013 season marks the fourth year that a divisional format has been utilized for MAC women's soccer.
The RedHawks received 66 total points in the voting, followed in the East Division by Kent State (62), Ohio (40), Akron (34), Buffalo (33) and the Falcons (16).
The 2013 season begins Friday (Aug. 23) with nine of the league's 12 teams in action that afternoon or evening. Eleven more matches are on tap for Sunday (Aug. 25), including the Falcons' regular-season opener at Cleveland State. That match begins at 1:00 p.m. at CSU's Krenzler Field.
The conference schedule begins on Friday, Sept. 27, and will wrap up just over a month later, on Halloween. The MAC Tournament starts Nov. 3 at campus sites and will then move to the home of the highest remaining seed for the semifinals (Nov. 8) and championship (Nov. 10).
Up next for the Falcons is a Thursday (Aug. 22) exhibition vs. Case Western Reserve University at Cochrane Field. Kickoff is set for 7:00 p.m., and admission is free. Following Sunday's match at CSU, the Brown and Orange will host Butler the following weekend in the regular-season home opener. That match is scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 31, at 4:00 p.m. BGSU's complete, most up-to-date schedule can be found by clicking here.
