MAC Releases Preseason Cross Country Polls
August 29, 2013 | Men's Cross Country, Women's Cross Country
Cleveland, Ohio – The Mid-American Conference announced the 2013 MAC men's and women's cross country preseason polls Thursday. The Bowling Green women's team was picked to finish eighth and the men's team was chosen ninth.
Expectations for the women's cross country program have risen under third-year coach Lou Snelling as the team has not finished higher than eighth in the MAC standings since the 2009 squad finished seventh. The Falcons return six runners from 2012, as well as four others who redshirted a year ago. Fifteen of the 16 student-athletes on the team are freshmen or sophomores.
In the women's poll, Toledo was picked to finish first, followed by Miami, Ohio and Eastern Michigan. Central Michigan, Buffalo and Akron rank just ahead of the Falcons, while Kent State, Northern Illinois, Western Michigan and Ball State round out the preseason poll.
On the men's side, BGSU was picked to finish ninth. The Falcons do return seven runners from a year ago and have added four freshmen to the mix.
Eastern Michigan was picked to win the men's cross country championship, followed by Central Michigan and Akron. Miami was chosen fourth, ahead of Buffalo, Kent State, Ohio and Toledo.
Both the BGSU men's and women's cross country teams open the season Friday at the Eastern Michigan Triangular. The Falcons will then host the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener Sept. 13 at 6:30 pm. BGSU will also host the MAC Championships Nov. 2, beginning at 11 am.
