BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Head baseball coach Danny Schmitz has announced the hiring of Garrett Gray as volunteer coach for the 2013-14 season. Gray, a 2013 graduate of Wright State, played for the Raiders from 2009-13.
"We are pleased to announce that Garrett Gray will be joining our BGSU Baseball staff as our Volunteer Coach," Schmitz said. "He comes to BGSU after a very successful career at Wright State University. He is an extremely hard worker and even a better person. Garrett will handle our catchers and assist with our hitters. We are glad he is a Falcon."
Gray, who graduated with a degree in organizational leadership, was a three-time first team All-Horizon League performer. In addition to that, he was also named to the All-Tournament team three different times for his performances in the Horizon League Tournament.
"I am extremely honored to join the Falcon baseball program and Falcon family," Gray began. "I'm looking forward to working with a great group of coaches and players who have made Bowling Green into a successful MAC program. I am thrilled to be a part of this exciting journey."
A leader on and off the field, Gray was a captain during his senior season, in addition to being named the Raider Award recipient. He was named first team All-Mideast Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association, a five-time Horizon League Player of the Week, and a three-time Horizon League Batter of the Week.
Gray was a career .344 hitter at WSU, as he played in 201 games during his career. Gray hit for power, as he had a career slugging percentage of .523. He was a perfect 12-for-12 in stolen bases last season for the Raiders, while also recording 20 extra base hits.
