Bowling Green, Ohio – Sophomore Tim Jurick led the men's cross country team and redshirt sophomore Andrea Alt paced the Falcon women's team in impressive fashion as the teams hosted the Mel Brodt Invitational Friday night.
Bowling Green hosted the annual meet and ran on the same course that will serve as host for the Mid-American Conference Championships Nov. 2. The men ran the same 8,000 meters that will be contested in the MAC Championships, while the women ran the final 5,000 meters of the 6,000-meter MAC Championship race.
Alt finished 18th overall with a time of 17:59.31, setting a new personal best by more than 15 seconds. In fact, all 11 Falcon women's runners either set a new personal best or were competing as freshmen in a collegiate meet for the first time. Following Alt, Rebecca Rae beat her personal best by more than 70 seconds with a time of 18:01.77 and Amanda Garlak improved her PR by more than 80 seconds with a time of 18:03.32.
In the men's race, Jurick placed 15th overall with a time of 26:21.39. Joe van Bolderen followed in 26:58.58 before a quartet of freshmen finished next just 14 seconds apart in Nathan Kuck, Ben Shaffer, Riley Kuess and Logan Pitcher.
BGSU will next compete in the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville University Oct. 4.
