Bowling Green, Ohio – BGSU cross country runners Jason Salyer and Andrea Alt ran near the front of a packed field Friday and the BGSU women's cross country team came up just four points shy of winning the All-Ohio Championships against 41 other schools, held at Cedarville University.
The BGSU women scored 97 team points, just four points more than champion Dayton scored. In the 42-team field, the Falcons ended ahead of three Mid-American Conference schools and earned the runner-up trophy ahead of Malone, Miami (Ohio) and Oberlin. Kent State placed eighth and Akron was ninth. The Falcons finished second among the seven NCAA Division I schools at the meet.
Among a field of 283 runners, Bowling Green had two runners place among the top 10, paced by redshirt sophomore Andrea Alt, who finished second overall with a time of 22:07.46 on the 6,000 meter course. Sophomore Amanda Garlak finished sixth overall with a personal best time of 22:32.83 and redshirt freshman Mackenzie McMillin was 17th in 23:00.19. "Andrea and Amanda took a nice step today," Head Coach Lou Snelling said. "They put together a good second race of the season. We came up short of achieving our team goal of winning, but we walked away understanding the potential we have when we do put it together later in the season."
