In 2012, the BGSU women did not compete as a team at the All-Ohio Championships but Emma Mirwaldt led the way with a 10th place finish in the open competition. The BGSU men placed 21st out of 44 teams, with then-senior Josh Franek leading with a 43rd place finish.
STRONG TRADITION
BGSU's women's team has earned seven All-Ohio Championships all-time, second all-time to Ohio's eight titles. The women won championships in 1981, 1983, 1984, 1985, 1995, 1997 and 1998. The Falcons have also claimed six individual titles with Joan Lancioux winning in 1981 and 1982, Sara Collas finishing first in 1984 and 1985, Cheri Triner winning in 1992 and Kristin Gaddis posting a championship in 1995. No other team can boast that many individual championships.
The BGSU men's team has five All-Ohio Team Championships, winning in 1970, 1971, 1974, 1979 and 1986 (co-champs with Miami). Sid Sink won individual championships in 1968 and 1969, followed by Olympic gold medalist Dave Wottle in 1971. Craig McDonald won the next two individual championships and Chris Koehler won back-to-back in 1981 and 1982. Finally, Eddie Kipchoge brought home the individual title in 2006.
MEL BRODT
BGSU has had three weeks off since competing last at home in the Mel Brodt Collegiate Opener. No team scores were kept, but the Falcons had a strong showing. All 11 BGSU women's runners either set a new collegiate personal best or were running in a collegiate meet for the first time. Andrea Alt led the way with a time of 17:59.31 to finish 18th. In the men's race, Tim Jurick finished 15th overall with a time of 26:21.39.
YOUTHFUL
Four of the nine BGSU competitors in the season-opening race for the men's team were true freshmen. On the women's side, three of the six student-athletes who ran were competing for the first time in college as redshirt freshmen. In all, 15 of the 16 student-athletes on the women's roster are freshmen or sophomores.
PRESEASON PREDICTIONS
In the MAC preseason coaches' poll, the BGSU women were picked to finish eighth in the MAC in 2013. The men's team was chosen to finish ninth.
STRONG ACADEMICALLY
Both the BGSU men's and women's cross country teams were named All-Academic Teams by the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) for the 2012 season.
