Falcons Begin Defense Of MAC Championship With First Practice

BGSU Baseball will begin 2014 season on Feb. 14 at Belmont
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The 2014 Bowling Green State University baseball season is officially underway. The Falcons, who held their first official team practice on Friday (Jan. 24) inside Perry Field House, will begin the 2014 season in just three weeks. Coming off a 2013 season which saw the Falcons win the MAC Tournament Championship and advance to the NCAA Regional for the first time since 1999, BGSU will begin the season at Belmont on Feb. 14.
Head coach Danny Schmitz enters his 24th season at the helm of the Orange and Brown, with a career record of 612-581-5. Rick Blanc (7th season), Mike Huling (2nd season), volunteer assistant Garrett Gray (1st season), and student assistant Drew Kuns (1st season) will join Schmitz in 2014. The Falcons will play 19 games away from home to start the season, before hosting Eastern Michigan at Warren E. Steller Field on Tuesday, March 18 in a nonconference tilt. The Orange and Brown will play at Belmont (Feb. 14-16), Murray State (Feb. 21-23), Georgia Tech (Feb. 28-Mar. 2), High Point (Mar. 7-9), and at the RussMatt Invitational in Winter Haven, Fla. (Mar. 11-15) before beginning Mid-American Conference play on Mar. 21 at Ball State.
