LAST TIME THEY MET
Date: Jan. 12, 2013
Location: Bowling Green, Ohio (Stroh Center)
Score: BGSU, 46-44
Notes: BGSU senior Jordon Crawford buried a game-winning three-pointer with 6.1 seconds left to give the Falcons a 46-44 victory over Eastern Michigan in front of 2,180 fans at the Stroh Center. Crawford's shot helped the Falcons end a five-game losing streak and move Bowling Green to .500 in MAC play at 1-1. But it was the defense that carried the team for most of the day as the Falcons scored their lowest point total in a victory since a 45-43 win at Kent State on March 3, 1976. BG held EMU to just 29 percent shooting and the Eagles connected on just five field goals in the second half as the Falcons overcame a 25-20 deficit at the break. BGSU forced 17 turnovers and grabbed nine steals, three from Crawford. EMU scored just one point after a Da'Shonte Riley jumper with 4:36 to play put the Eagles on top 43-41. Derek Thompson made a free-throw with 2:32 to play to put the visitors on top 44-41. A'uston Calhoun missed a three-pointer with 2:04 to play but Crawford stole an outlet pass and fired up a three-pointer. He missed but Calhoun cleaned up the loose ball and scored inside to get BGSU back within one. With 28 seconds to play, EMU's Jalen Ross missed a jumper and Richaun Holmes corralled the rebound. Crawford tried to put the Falcons ahead on a three-pointer with 17 seconds left but his shot rimmed out. Chauncey Orr hustled to the floor to tie up a loose ball and the Falcons retained possession with 12 seconds remaining. After a timeout, Crawford got a second chance and he did not fail again, burying the three-pointer from the top of the key. EMU still had an opportunity to win the game but Orr forced Derek Thompson into a long, contested three-point look that never got to the rim as the horn sounded. Crawford finished the game with 11 points, but added four assists, four rebounds and three steals. Calhoun had a game-high 17 points on 7-of-11 shooting and finished with seven rebounds. BG shot 35 percent from the floor but grabbed 15 offensive rebounds and held a 39-34 edge on the boards. The Falcons also committed a season-high 20 turnovers, but just six in the second half.

LAST TIME OUT
The BGSU men's basketball team shot over 57 percent over the final 20 minutes of play, yet it was not enough to overcome a slow first half start and an early double digit deficit, as the Falcons fell at home to IPFW 65-60Â on Thursday night. The Falcons' Cameron Black posted two blocks on the night, to go along with a game-high 11 rebounds, to give him 119 career rejections at BGSU and sole possession of second-place on the all-time career blocks list in BGSU history. Richaun Holmes and Jehvon Clarke led the home team with 16 points each, as Holmes added nine rebounds with his total, while Spencer Parker totaled 15 points in the loss. The fifth starter, Anthony Henderson, tallied a career-high five steals on the night, as all five BGSU starters logged over 31 minutes of playing time for the game. A three-pointer from the left wing from Holmes and a free throw from Clarke capped the scoring for the first half over the closing minutes of the opening half, as the Falcons trailed by 13 at 34-21 at the half. Out of the halftime break, the Falcons came out with some fire, as the home team picked up an early dunk from Holmes and connected on nine of its first 12 shots in the second half to storm back into the contest and cut the Mastodons' lead to three at 44-41 on a second three-pointer from Holmes. A 6-1 run, which consisted of a layup from Henderson, a dunk from Holmes and a slashing layup from Clarke, over a two and a half minute span cut the Mastodons' lead back to one possession at 53-51 with less than five minutes in play. That would be as close as the Falcons would get for the remainder of the night, as down the stretch, the Falcons were forced to foul and IPFW was able to hit one of two free throws on five different trips to the free throw line to help hold on for the 65-60 road win. BGSU outscored the Mastodons 32-22 in points in the paint, however, IPFW held a huge advantage in both bench points, 20-6, as well as in points from behind the three-point line as the Mastodons hit seven three-pointers for 21 points compared to the Falcons two three-pointers and six points.

HOLMES & WARD - FROM MORAINE VALLEY TO THE MAC

Just one year later, Ward suited up for Moraine and was an NJCAA DI All-American, an All-Region IV First-Team selection, the All Region IV Tournament MVP and was also named the Conference Player of the Year.

2ND HALF > 1ST HALF
Bowling Green has proven to be a second half team this season, as the Falcons have scored 50 more points (451-401) over the final 20 minutes of play compared to the first 20 minutes of action so far this year. Three of BGSU's four lowest total points output per half this season (19, 19, 21) have come in the first half of play.

NON-CONFERENCE SEASON IS OVER
BGSU went 6-7 over its 13 non-conference games this season, posting six non-conference wins for the second straight year and for the third time over the last four years.
CAM SWATTING HIS WAY INTO BGSU HISTORY
With his two blocked shots against IPFW on Jan. 2, senior Cam Black moved into sole possession of second-place on BGSU's all-time career blocks list. The 6-10 center has 119 swats and is 40 shy of Otis Polk, the Falcons' career blocks leader with 159 rejections.
BLACK CLOSING IN ON CAREER BOARD NO. 500
Senior Cam Black is closing in on a career milestone, as the center is only 22 rebounds away from hauling in career rebound number 500.
NOT SO NICE WAY TO END THE 2013 CALENDAR YEAR
The Falcons ended the 2013 calendar year on a low note, as BGSU scored a season-low 43 points in a road loss at Wright State on Dec. 29. Bowling Green, who also matched its season-low of 19 points (1st half) in a single half in the loss, suffered its first loss of the season when having a better field goal percentage than its foe (6-1) and its first defeat of the year when holding its opponent to less than 40 percent shooting for the game (5-1).
