MAC Women's Soccer Player of the Week Release
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University's Lauren Cadel was tabbed the Mid-American Conference Women's Soccer Defensive Player of the Week, it was announced today by the league office. Cadel helped lead the Falcons to back-to-back conference wins over Ohio and Kent State over the weekend.
For the second straight weekend, the BGSU goalkeeper posted a career-high in saves and totaled 24 stops overall in the Falcons' two MAC contests last week, both of which were home wins. Cadel started the week off with a career-high 14 saves in the Falcons' 2-1 come from behind win over the Ohio Bobcats at Cochrane Stadium. The redshirt-sophomore followed up that performance with 10 saves in a 1-0 shutout win over Kent State on Sunday afternoon.
Cadel has totaled double digit saves in each of the last four games – 11, 13, 14 and 10 – and has increased her season total 119 saves on the season. She has posted five games with double digit saves this season and now sits atop the BGSU career record books with 11 career games with 10 or more saves.
The Falcons' two wins this weekend marks the first time the women's soccer team has posted back-to-back MAC wins since 2010 when the Falcons defeated Buffalo 4-0 on Sept. 24 and Kent State 1-0 on Sept. 26. The last time the Falcons won two consecutive matches was in 2011, when BGSU won at Youngstown State 2-1 on Sept. 11 and then beat IPFW 1-0 at home on Sept. 16.
Bowling Green will hit the road to take on Western Michigan this Friday, Oct. 24, at 3 p.m. in Kalamazoo, Mich. BGSU will return to Cochrane Stadium for their final home game of the season on Thursday, Oct. 30, at 3 p.m.
