Softball Adds Six To Falcon Family

Coach Shannon Salsburg has announced the signings of six players to that will join the Orange and Brown.
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. -- Bowling Green State University head softball coach Shannon Salsburg has announced that six student-athletes have signed National Letters of Intent to play for Bowling Green. Carly Allen, Paige Summers, Hanna Giammarino, Kiley Sosby, Alex Sorgi, and Brooke Parker have all committed for next year.
"I am so excited to announce our 2015 class. As a whole, this class will bring a little bit of everything to our team," Salsburg said. "The class is comprised of outstanding student-athletes who believe in working hard on and off the field. The young ladies in our 2015 class bring speed, power at the plate, versatility defensively, dominance on the mound and most of all a strong work ethic."
Carly Allen | Waynesville, Ohio
Summer Team: Hawks Gold 18U
Positon: Pitcher
Carly Allen (Waynesville, Ohio) has signed her National Letter of Intent with the Bowling Green State University softball program. Allen was a member of the Hawks Gold 18U team in the summer of 2014, where she primarily spent her time in the circle. Allen, who is the daughter of Randy and Lora Allen, also played softball for Waynesville High School. She was named first team All-State, first team All-Dayton Metron and SWBL Pitcher of the Year in 2014. Allen was also named SWBL Player of the Year in 2012. Allen plans to study education while attending BGSU.
"We are excited to add Carly to our softball family," Salsburg said. "Carly is a finesse pitcher who has shown the ability to adjust throughout 7 innings. She has a strong presence on the mound and is really smart about how she sets up hitters."

"I love the atmosphere of the university itself and the family attitude of the team," Allen said. "I didn't just want to be a player, I wanted to be a family member."
Paige Summers | ÂDalton, Ohio
Summer Team: Ohio Bandits
Positon: Infielder
Paige Summers (Dalton, Ohio) committed to the Bowling Green State University softball program after signing her National Letter of Intent with the Falcons. Summers was a member of the Ohio Bandits in 2014, spending the majority of her time as an infielder. Summers attended Dalton High School and found plenty of success with the softball program. Summers was named to the first team WCAL and first team All-Daily Record from 2012-14, and was an Honorable Mention All-Ohio in 2014. Paige is the daughter of Paul and Dian Summers.Â
"Paige was a natural fit for our team. She is a versatile athlete who has a strong offensive presence," Salsburg said. "Paige is a worker and I look forward to watching her grow into the player we envision she can be. We are very excited to have her as a Falcon."

 "It's always been my dream to play Division I softball," Summers said. "I fell in love with the college and knew I didn't want to go anywhere else."Â
Hannah Giammarino | ÂTeays Valley, Ohio
Summer Team: Ohio Nightmare Gold 18U
Positon: Infielder
Hannah Giammarino (Teays Valley, Ohio) signed her National Letter of Intent with the Bowling Green State University Falcons. Giammarino spent her summer with the Ohio Nightmare Gold 18U after playing for Teays Valley High School. During her time spent at Teays Valley, Giammarino was named first team All-League in 2013-14. She was also named Honorable Mention All-District in 2014. Hannah is the daughter of Amy Holland and Richard Giammarino.
"Hannah is an incredible athlete. She can play multiple positions and we expect her to compete immediately in the infield," Salsburg said. "Hannah is a fierce competitor, who will do whatever it takes both on and off the field. We are thrilled to add Hannah to our BGSU family and can't wait to have her during the next four years!"

"My dream was to play Division I softball since I was five years old," Giammarino said. "Bowling Green was close to home and I know my family will appreciate that." Â
Kiley Sosby | ÂWhiteoak, Ohio
Summer Team: Outlaws Gold
Positon: Pitcher/Third Base
Kiley Sosby (Whiteoak, Ohio) committed to the Bowling Green State University softball program, signing her National Letter of Intent to become a member of the Orange and Brown. Sosby played for the Outlaws Gold softball team in the summer after playing for Whiteoak High School. During her time in high school. Sosby came off a career year for the Outlaws Gold in the summer of 2014, leading the team a ninth-place finish at the PGF Nationals. The impressive run marked only the second team to finish in the top 10 at the PGF Nationals east of Mississippi. Sosby was named to the first team All-Southern Hill Athletic Conference and the first team All-Southeast District teams from 2012-14. Sosby was also an All-Ohio Player of the Year and first team All-State from 2013-14. Kiley is the daughter of Lisa and Greg Sosby. Sosby will plan to study business at BGSU.
"We are so happy to add Kiley to our softball family. Kiley is a tremendous competitor," Salsburg. "We are excited to have Kiley and look forward to seeing her growth during her time as a Falcon."

 Alex Sorgi | Henry Ford, Mich.
Summer Team: Michigan Batbusters
Positon: Outfielder
Alex Sorgi (Henry Ford, Mich.) signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the Bowling Green State University softball program. Sorgi spent her summers playing for the Michigan Batbusters and played softball for Henry Ford II in Sterling Heights, Michigan. She was an named to the All-State and All-Metro Detroit teams in 2013-14, while also being honored at All-Region, All-District and All-Conference from 2012-14. Alex is the daughter of Joe and Roni Sorgi, and is considering a career in the medial field.
"Alex will be the fastest player to be a Falcon in a really long time. She is a difference maker not only offensively but also in the outfield," Salsburg. "Alex has a fantastic arm and the ability to run down anything close to her in the outfield. We are ecstatic that Alex has joined our softball family."

"I choose Bowling Green because my family is really close and they have supported me in everything I do," Sorgi said. "I wouldn't have this opportunity if it weren't for my family, friends and coaches."
Brooke Parker| Glen Estes, Ohio
Summer Team: Beverly Bandits 18U Team Demarini
Positon: Pitcher/First Base
Brooke Parker (Glen Estes, Ohio) has signed her National Letter of Intent to play for the Bowling Green State University softball team. Parker played for the Beverly Bandits 18U team in the summer, while playing for Glen Este High School. She pitched her summer league to a third place finish at Nationals during her time spent with the Beverly Bandits. She was also honored as first team All-League from 2012-14 in high school. Brooke is the daughter of Tina and James Parker.
"Brooke is a work horse on the mound bringing a lefty arm to our staff. She is a fierce competitor who has challenged herself by playing at an elite level for the past few years," Salsburg said. "The first thing we loved about Brooke was her size and ability to carry a lot of innings for her teams. We are excited to see how far Brooke can grow under Monica's coaching and we are absolutely thrilled to have her joining our BGSU softball family!"

"Choosing BGSU is giving me the opportunity to join not only the softball team, the school, or the town, but a family," Parker said.
