Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will leave the Continental United States and fly to the Aloha State of Hawaii to play in the 2014 Ka'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational hosted by the University of Hawai'i in Lahaina, Maui from Nov. 7-9.
The three-day, 54-hole event, will be held at the Ka'anapali Golf Course and the Royal Ka'anapali Course at the Ka'anapali Golf Resort on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The tournament will consist of 18 holes each day, while each round of play will begin with an 8:00 a.m. local time shotgun start (1:00 p.m. ET). The classic will play par-71, over 6,700-yards.
This year's tournament field includes 15 teams overall in Bowling Green, Cal State Northridge, Clemson, Georgia, Gonzaga, Hawai'i, Hawai'i-Hilo, Kansas, Loyola Marymount, UNC-Wilmington, North Florida, Oregon, Samford, UC Irvine and Utah Valley State.
For the third straight event, Falcons' head coach Kevin Farrell will be sending out the same lineup in Jose Narro, Brett Rinker, Cameron Michalak, Joe Cooper and Ryan Triller.
Narro, who leads the team with a 73.53 stroke average on the season and three top-25 finishes, will look to finish his 2014 fall season on a high note this weekend in Hawai'i. The sophomore, who has yet to card a round higher than 79 thus far this fall, has posted three subpar rounds this season and has been one of the top-two Falcon finishers in every tournament thus far this season for BGSU. Last time out, Narro turned in rounds of 72, 74 and 73 to finish in a tie for 36th-place overall with his combined score of 219, +3, at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in Vero Beach, Fla.
Like Narro, Rinker will compete in his sixth event this fall season for the Falcons, having posted a stroke average of 75.27 over 15 rounds of play thus far. The sophomore has recorded a low round 71 this fall and has posted only one round of play with a score higher than 79. Rinker is coming off rounds of 77, 74, and 74 at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate in which he finished in a tie for 63rd-place overall with his 54-hole score of 225, +9.
Coming off the best 54-hole score of his young career at BGSU, Michalak will look to continue his strong play in his first year as a Falcon. The freshman, who has recorded a low round 71 thus far this season, shot rounds of 72, 76 and 72 to finish with a combined score of 220, +4, at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate two weeks ago. On the season, Michalak has registered a stroke average of 75.67 on the year.
Cooper, who has twice posted a low round 71 this fall, enters play this week after leading the Falcons with a team-low 54-hole score of 218, +2, at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate. The senior, who posted rounds of 71, 72 and 75, last time out in Florida, has turned in a season stroke average of 76.33 over 12 rounds of play to date.
Triller, who will be teeing-off for the Falcons for the fifth tournament this fall season, matched his career low round of 69 last time out over the second round of play at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate. Like Narro, Triller has yet to post an 18-hole score higher than a 79 thus far this season and has posted a stroke average of 75.00 over 12 rounds of play.
