Narro Posts a First Round 66 at the Ka’anapali Collegiate Classic

Lahaina, Maui (Hawai'i) – Bowling Green State University sophomore golfer Jose Narro carded a first round 66, -5 under par, on Friday to lead the Falcons on day one of the 2014 Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic hosted by the University of Hawai'i at the Ka'anapali Golf Resort in Lahaina, Maui.
As a team, the Falcons carded a first round combined score of 282, -2 under par, to conclude day one in ninth-place overall in the challenging 13-team field. BGSU is only four strokes behind both UC Irvine and Loyola Marymount who are both tied for seventh-place overall with matching team scores of 278, -6 under par.
Narro matched both his season and career low round of 66 on Friday, as he posted a 30, -4 under par, on the back nine and totaled seven birdies overall. The sophomore is in a five-way tie for eighth-place on the individual leaderboard with players from Kansas, Oregon and Georgia. Narro is only four strokes behind the tournament leader in Brandon McIver of Oregon who turned in a first round 62, -9 under par.
Fellow sophomore Brett Rinker matched his season low round of 71, even par, on day one of play, good enough to place him in a tie for 36th-place overall. Rinker posted two birdies and 14 pars over his first 18 holes of the three-day event.
Like Rinker, fellow Falcon Cameron Michalak also posted a round of 71, even par, on Friday to end day one in a tie for 36th-place. The freshman also posted two birdies and 14 pars en route to matching his season and career low round of 71 as a Falcon.
Rounding out the BGSU lineup on Friday was seniors Joe Cooper and Ryan Triller. Cooper posted three birdies on his way to a first round 74, +3, while Triller shot three pars as well over his round of 76, +5. The two are in 61st and 66th-places, respectively.
Oregon sits atop of the team leaderboard with a first round score of 254, -30 under par, while North Florida is in second-place with a combined score of 269, -15 under par.
The second round of play is set for an 8:00 a.m. (1:00 p.m. ET) shotgun start.
