Parkinson Awarded the Leslie Dawley “Fighting Falcon” Award
December 10, 2014 | Women's Soccer
Bowling Green, Ohio - In what has become a well-respected annual award since the 2000 season for the Bowling Green State University women's soccer program, the Leslie Dawley "Fighting Falcon" Award was awarded to junior defender Haley Parkinson this season, as voted on by both the team members and the coaching staff.
The Leslie Dawley "Fighting Falcon" Award is given to the team member who, through words and actions, most accurately reflects the program's philosophy of "Today I gave all that I have, for everything I left behind is gone forever".
"I really value the tradition of this award and what it stands for. Since it's induction in 2000, I think it continues to take shape based on where the program has been and the leadership in place. This year, the Leslie Dawley "Fighting Falcon" Award was given to the team member who sets the bar through words and actions to most accurately reflect the programs core values and team culture as voted on by team members and the coaching staff," commented head coach Lindsay Basalyga. "Haley Parkinson was the clear winner for this award. As team captain, Haley consistently set the bar and was a role model for a very young team. I'm excited to see how this award continues to take shape in the coming years."
The award was renamed to honor Leslie Dawley, a Falcon student-athlete who entered BGSU in the fall of 2002 and played with the team during the 2002 season before passing away in November of that year.
