Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Players of the Week Release (12-29-14)
Cleveland, Ohio – Senior forward Richaun Holmes picked up his second Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball East Division Player of the Week honor of the season, the league office announced on Monday, Dec. 29.
Holmes, who was also tabbed the Madness Mid-American Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Monday morning by College Sports Madness (www.collegesportsmadness.com), led the Falcons to a 79-70 road win over South Florida on Sunday afternoon at the Sun Dome in Tampa, Florida.
The win was the first-ever win for BGSU over the Bulls of USF.
The 6-8 big man led the Falcons with a team-high 19 points, nine rebounds and four blocks against a big front line of USF. He also had five offensive rebounds in the game as well. Holmes highlighted his performance with a put back dunk over two USF defenders with less than three minutes to go in the contest to help seal the road win for the Falcons. Holmes has now scored in double figures in seven different contests for the Falcons on the season.
This is the second MAC weekly honor for Holmes, as he was also named the MAC Men's Basketball East Division Player of the Week on Dec. 1.
Holmes' honor this week marks the third time this season that a Falcon has earned the conference weekly honor (Holmes – Dec. 1, Zack Denny – Dec. 15, Holmes – Dec. 29).
The Falcons (7-3) will wrap up non-conference play at home versus Chicago State on Saturday, Jan. 3, at 7 p.m. in the Stroh Center.
