BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team completed its annual Orange and Brown Intrasquad scrimmage Saturday (Dec. 6) afternoon in front of a nice gathering of Falcon fans inside of Anderson Arena.
"We had a little bit of a rough start, unfortunately. We've had some great intrasquads leading up to now, but I think it's such an important opportunity to have a learning experience," head coach Kerrie Turner said. "It was nice to see the athletes not give up -- they struggled through vault and bars a little bit, but they really did a nice job of regrouping and finishing well on beam and floor. That's an encouraging moment in just the fact that they have to learn to come back sometimes, and today that was kind of what this intrasquad was about for us."

A total of 13 gymnasts competed for Bowling Green, including five freshmen. After junior Caroline Ellingboe sang the National Anthem, the team started with the vault exercise and followed with uneven bars, the balance beam and concluded with the floor exercise.

Freshman Krista Walberer and seniors Amanda Lievendag and Jamilah Ali posted the top scores during the scrimmage, as Walberer scored a 9.850 on the floor, Lievendag posted the same score on uneven bars, and Ali also registered a 9.850 on balance beam.

Freshman Jordan Rae (uneven bars) and junior Katrina Carpenter (floor) recorded a score of 9.800, while sophomore Victoria Heath's 9.750 was a well-deserved score on vault.

BGSU will open its season against Michigan State on Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. at Anderson Arena.
