February 11, 2014 | Gymnastics
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green senior Megan Harrington has been named the Mid-American Conference's Gymnast of the Week. Harrington led the Falcons in the all-around at a pair of weekend meets to earn league honors.
The Falcons competed at the Chicago Style Invite Friday, finishing second out of four teams, including an upset victory over North Carolina. BGSU's only defeat came at the hands of No. 18 Boise State. Bowling Green then returned home to host No. 19 Central Michigan Sunday. Despite a loss, the Falcons posted their highest team score, 195.550, in nine years.
Harrington guided the Falcons through those meets by scoring a career-best 39.100 in the all-around in Chicago before posting an almost-identical score of 39.075 against Central Michigan. She finished second in the all-around at both meets, scoring season-highs in the vault (9.800) and the bars (9.725) in the weekend's opening meet. Harrington followed that up with a career-best on beam (9.850), while tying her bars score of 9.725 against CMU. She posted at least a 9.675 in all eight rotations on the weekend.
Harrington is the second Falcon to earn MAC Gymnast of the Week this year and third to be honored by the conference. Alyssa Nocella was named MAC Gymnast of the Week Jan. 28 and Amanda Lievendag was named MAC Specialist of the Week Jan. 14.
As a team, Bowling Green is 5-4 on the season and 3-1 in MAC competitions. All four of the team's defeats have come against teams ranked in the top 20 in the country. The Falcons will hit the road this weekend to compete in a triangular at Maryland with Yale Saturday at 2 pm.
