LAST TIME THEY MET
Date: Feb. 2, 2013
Location: Bowling Green, Ohio (Stroh Center)
Score: BGSU, 70-59
Notes: Bowling Green's bench scored 38 points as the men's basketball team led wire-to-wire for a 70-59 victory over Ball State in front of 3,128 fans at the Stroh Center. The bench was sparked by moving Jordon Crawford to the bench. The senior point guard had started 45 consecutive games dating back to last year, but head coach Louis Orr chose to start Luke Kraus in his place. Crawford responded with a game-high 19 points and a season-high eight assists in 33 minutes. That's not to say Crawford was the lone factor among the non-starters. James Erger scored a career-high nine points and added four rebounds in 13 minutes. Craig Sealey tied his season-high with 19 energetic minutes, posting four points and two rebounds. The starting unit, though, also produced and the Falcons jumped out to a 7-0 lead and never looked back. Kraus and Chauncey Orr hit early three-pointers and the Falcons never led by less than four points for the remainder of the game. Erger had a layup and Sealey followed by going coast-to-coast for a thunderous dunk that gave the Falcons a 20-10 lead. BGSU pushed the lead to 11 late in the first half on jumpers from Crawford and Sealey, but Ball State answered. A Jesse Berry three-pointer was followed by a Chris Bond free throw with 43 seconds left and the Cardinals were down just seven. BGSU closed the half in fine fashion as Crawford made a jumper, followed by an Orr steal that concluded in a Sealey layup with eight seconds left. Crawford then stole the inbounds pass and finished a layup as the horn sounded for a 41-28 halftime lead. As has happened on numerous occasions lately, the Falcons struggled out of the locker room in the second half. Ball State cut the deficit to four on a Jauwan Scaife three-pointer with 11:54 to play, but BGSU answered again. Orr's jumper ignited a 10-2 run and A'uston Calhoun's lay up with 8:06 to go gave BGSU a 59-47 lead. Ball State never got closer than eight the rest of the way. While the bench played a huge role, the BGSU starting five was also strong. Calhoun ended with 17 points on 8-of-11 shooting to go with six rebounds and two steals. Orr posted 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting. Kraus had five assists and a career-best five steals as the Falcons posted a season-high 13 steals on 15 Ball State turnovers.
BGSU vs. BALL STATE SERIES HISTORY
The Falcons hold a slight 42-34 advantage overall versus Ball State. After losing three straight to the Cardinals from 2003-05, BGSU has dominated the match up, winning eight of the last 10 meetings. However, the games have been close as the difference over the last 10 games on average has been only 5.2 points per contest.

LAST TIME OUT
Kent, Ohio – BGSU senior Cameron Black scored a career-high 18 points in his final homecoming at Kent State, yet the Golden Flashes used a three-pointer from Devareaux Manley with less than a second left to sink the Falcons 62-61 on Wednesday night in the M.A.C. Center. Sophomore Spencer Parker calmly hit two free throws with just over eight seconds to go in the game to give the Falcons a 61-59 lead. With no timeouts, KSU brought the ball up the court and attempted to drive down the right baseline. Kris Brewer then floated a one-handed runner towards the basket with time winding down, but had it blocked in mid-air by BGSU's Black to send the ball loose under the Kent State basket and then eventually out of bounds off a Falcon player with just over three seconds remaining. On the ensuing inbounds play, Brewer found a slicing Manley in the near corner who fired up a three-pointer while fading out of bounds that went through the net with 0.9 seconds to go in the game giving Kent State the 62-61 win. Black, a Kent, Ohio native, had a career-high 18 points, nine rebounds and three blocked shots, while guard Jehvon Clarke added 18 points and six assists in 40 minutes of play. Fellow backcourt mate Anthony Henderson had 12 points, eight rebounds and three steals, as the Falcons led for the majority of the contest. BGSU added to its 35-27 halftime lead with five quick points from Parker and Black to start the second half and give the Falcons a 13 point lead, for the second time in the game, at 40-27 with 18:56 to go in the contest. Kent State answered with a double digit run, pouring in 12 straight points, six of which were on offensive rebounds, over the next three minutes to trim the BGSU lead back down to one at 40-39 with 15:20 to play. KSU cut the BGSU lead to one four more times over the next nine minutes of play, yet the Falcons managed an answer each time to stay in front during that span, including seeing a layup from Black at the 5:44 mark give BGSU a three point lead at 53-50. After a Clarke three-pointer from the top of the key as the shot clock expired minutes later extended the Falcons lead to five at 56-51, Kent State again responded with a surge of their own, rattling off seven straight points to take its first lead of the second half at 57-56 with 3:15 to go in the game. The two teams' then traded baskets and the lead over the next minute until a free throw from Clarke tied the game up at 59-59 with 1:57 on the game clock. The next two possessions saw the Falcons force a Kent State turnover and then a BGSU miss on a go-ahead jump shot to give KSU the ball with less than a minute to play. Following a KSU timeout, BGSU forced Darren Goodson to take a jump shot, only to see the home team come away with the offensive rebound and another chance to take the lead. After a second Kent State timeout, Manley missed a three-pointer from the left corner and then immediately fouled Parker going for the rebound. Parker hit the front end of the 1-and-1 to put BGSU up 60-59, then after a Falcon timeout, he drained the second free throw to give the visitors a 61-59 lead with just over eight seconds in regulation. The eight seconds proved to be one second too much, as Manley's three fell thru the basket with 0.9 seconds left on the game clock. BGSU's last second inbounds full court heave was knocked away, as Kent State slipped by with the 62-61 win.
ONE MORE FOR ORR
Coach Louis Orr has currently amassed 199 career wins as a head coach at his three posts (BGSU, Seton Hall and Siena) and is only one win shy of 200 career victories. Coach Orr is also only one way from amassing his 100th career win at BGSU.
LAST SECOND GUT WRENCHING LOSSES
In each of the last two Falcon losses (Akron, 65-63; Kent State, 62-61), Bowling Green has lost on a late jump shot in the closing seconds and final possession of the game. Akron hit the go-ahead shot with just over two seconds to play to defeat BGSU 65-63 on Feb. 9, while Kent State hit a three-pointer in the final second to escape the Falcons on Feb. 12, 62-61.
LOOKING TO BOUNCE BACK FROM TOUGH 3-GAME SKID
BGSU is in the midst of a three-game losing streak, in which all three losses have come by a combined 10 points. The Falcons battled back from a double digit deficit to lose to Toledo by seven points at 83-76 on Feb. 6, then suffered back-to-back heartbreaking losses on last second shots to Akron by two points at 65-63 on Feb. 9 and at Kent State by one point at 62-61 on Feb. 12.
HOLMES' HOUSE: CLOSING IN ON HIS OWN SEASON RECORD
Junior forward Richaun Holmes has totaled 69 blocks thus far this season and has posted five blocks or more in a single game six times this year. Last season, Holmes set a new BGSU single-season record with 73 blocks on the season overall and this year is on pace to break that record as he is averaging 2.9 blocks per game.
CAREER NIGHT IN BLACK'S FINAL HOMECOMING AT KENT STATE
In his final homecoming game at Kent State, Kent, Ohio native, Cam Black had a career-high 18 points in a 62-61 last second loss on Feb. 12. Black also had nine rebounds and three blocks in the game, as he was 9-of-11 from the floor overall.
THE BUCK STOPS AT 13 POINTS
The Falcons ran out to a 13 point lead to start the contest (13-0) at Kent State and then another 13 point lead at 40-27 to start the second half, yet could not extend the lead past 13 points as the Golden Flashes battled back to defeat BGSU 62-61 on a last second three-pointer.
STARTERS SHOULDERING THE SCORING LOAD
The five starters for BGSU - Jehvon Clarke, Anthony Henderson, Spencer Parker, Richaun Holmes and Cameron Black - are shouldering most of the scoring load this season for the Falcons, as they combined are averaging 89.1 percent of the scoring for BGSU this season. The five starter have combined for a total of 1,367 points for BGSU this season, while the rest of the team has scored a total of 167 points. That is an average of just under 57.0 points per game for the starters and just under 7.0 points per contest from the non-starting five this season.
HOLMES' DUNK IN THE FIRST HALF VS. AKRON PLAY #2 ON ESPN'S WEEKEND TOP PLAYS
Richaun Holmes received a pass from Jehvon Clarke and drove the lane before throwing down a one-handed slam over Akron's Pat Forsythe at the 11:09 mark of the first half on Feb. 9. The dunk was featured on ESPN SportsCenter's Weekend Top-10 Plays later on that night as the No. 2 play.
DOUBLE DIGIT DEFICIT DISTRESSES
Bowling Green has proven to be a notoriously slow starting them this season, as the Falcons have fallen behind by double digits in 18 of its 24 contests this season. Oddly enough, when BGSU doesn't fall behind by double digits (6 times) the Falcons are 5-1 on the season. BGSU is just 5-13 in the 18 contests in which the orange and brown has trailed by double digits at some point in the game.
GETTING TO THE LINE
Aggressive play has aided the Falcons this season, as BGSU is 7-2 on the year when making more free throws than its opponent for the game. Overall BGSU is 57-21 under head coach Louis Orr when hitting more free throws than its foes over the last six + seasons.
70 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
The magic number for the Falcons is 70 - as in 70 points per game. BGSU is 4-2 this season when scoring 70 points or more and 43-17 overall under head coach Louis Orr since his first year at BGSU in 2007-08. On the flip side, Bowling Green is only 6-12 this year when scoring less than 70 points and 58-68 overall during Orr's tenure when not amassing 70 points or more.
WORKING OVERTIME ON THE FLOOR
A number of BGSU players in Jehvon Clarke, Anthony Henderson, Damarkeo Lyshe and Spencer Parker have all logged more minutes this season alone than they had for their entire careers prior to this year.
FOUR SCORES ... IN MAC PLAY
The Falcons have four players averaging double digit points thus far this year in MAC play. Jehvon Clarke (14.4), Richaun Holmes (12.7), Spencer Parker (12.3) and Anthony Henderson (12.2) are all averaging double figures in BGSU's 11 MAC games.
COMEBACK KIDS
In each of the Falcons last three wins - at Western Michigan, at Ohio and versus Buffalo at home - BGSU has erased a double digit deficit. At Western Michigan, BGSU came back from a 15-point deficit in the second half to earn a 69-64 win. Versus Ohio, the Falcons overcame an 11 point first half lead to upend the Bobcats 58-56, and at home against Buffalo, BGSU overcame a 10 point first half deficit to storm back for a 74-68 win.
CLARKE LEADING BY EXAMPLE
Over the last six games, Clarke has averaged 17.0 points, 6.2 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 1.7 steals per contest for the Falcons. The junior guard has scored in double figures in five of the last six games, including posting a career-high in points twice during that span.
ANT-THREE-NY ON FIRE SINCE KALAMAZOO
Since his break out game of 27 points in a win at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, shooting guard Anthony Henderson has been on a tear from behind the three-point line. Over his last eight games, which includes the WMU win, Henderson has shot 51.1 percent from downtown, as he is 23-of-45 from long range.
ROAD TRIUMPHS IN 2013-14
Bowling Green has posted three road wins this season - at Morehead State, at Western Michigan and at Ohio - which has already tripled it's win total in true road games from last season. Prior to last season, the Falcons won only four road games in each of the previous two years.
A BLOCK FOR BLACK & HOLMES - SHARPIE
You can sharpie in a block for both Cam Black and Richaun Holmes at the opening tip, as each Falcon big has posted at least one block in a game double digit times. Holmes has registered at least one block in 22 contests this season, while Black has recorded at least one swat in 18 different games on the year.
CHASING OTIS
Both Cam Black and Richaun Holmes are chasing former Falcon Otis Polk for the most career blocks in BGSU men's basketball history. Polk's 159 career swats is 17 blocks ahead of Holmes who is in second-place overall with 142 career rejections. Black is only one spot behind Holmes with his 138 career blocks.
BGSU MEN'S HOOPS RANKED IN THE TOP-25 IN STEALS AND BLOCKS
BGSU enters the contest ranked in the top-25 nationally among a number of defensive categories in the NCAA Division I Men's Basketball statistical rankings released on Monday, Feb. 10. DEFENSIVE PROWESS
BGSU takes pride in its defensive prowess, as the Falcons are second in the MAC in scoring defense, allowing only 64.1 points per game on the season. BGSU is also second in the conference in blocked shots per game (5.7) and third in steals per game (8.2). In Conference play only, BGSU is holding its foes to only 63.2 points per game, which ranks fifth in the MAC, while the Falcons are second in the league in blocked shots in league play with 5.1 per game and third fourth in steals with 7.3 per contest.
AT THE TOP IN THE MAC
Bowling Green's Richaun Holmes leads the MAC in blocked shots on the season, as he has 69 total blocks and an average of 2.9 per game, while Anthony Henderson is ranked second in the MAC in steals with an average of 2.2 per contest and 52 total thefts overall. Jehvon Clarke leads the league in minutes played with an average of 36.1 minutes per contest.
NO REST FOR THE WEARY
Bowling Green has four players in the top-10 of the league in minutes played thus far this season. Jehvon Clarke (36.1), Spencer Parker (35.1) and Anthony Henderson (33.8) are 1-2-3 in the MAC in minutes played this season, while Richaun Holmes (31.8) ranks 10th in the MAC in minutes played on the year.
2ND HALF > 1ST HALF
Bowling Green has proven to be a second half team this season, as the Falcons have scored 95 more points (812 > 717) over the final 20 minutes of play compared to the first 20 minutes of action so far this year. Four of BGSU's six lowest total points output per half this season (18, 19, 19, 21) have come in the first half of play.
KEEPERS OF THE RIM: BLOCK BROTHERS
BGSU's duo of Cam Black and Richaun Holmes continue to prove to be an effective last line of defense for the Falcons, as the tandem have combined for 105 blocks over the Falcons' 24 games this season. Both Holmes (142) and Black (138) are already in the top-three all-time at BGSU in career blocked shots.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
The Falcons this season have had a balance scoring attack, as in 22 of their 24 games this season BGSU has had multiple players record double digit points. In fact, BGSU has had at least three different players post double digit points in 20 of those 22 contests this season, while six different players have registered double digit points in at least one game thus far this year.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK: TAKE 5
BGSU has had all five starters score in double digits in three different contests this season (Earlham, Presbyterian, Morehead State), all of which were wins.
BREAK OUT SEASONS FOR THE FALCONS
BGSU has had a number of players already have break out seasons thus far in 2013-14, as seven different Falcons have recorded career-high's in points thus far this year with multiple players setting multiple career marks. Bowling Green has also seen a handful of players set career marks in other statistical categories such as rebounds, steals, assists, blocked shots and minutes played.
CLARKE'S HOT START AS A STARTER
Junior guard Jehvon Clarke, who made his first career start in the season opener versus Earlham, has started every game for BGSU this season. Clarke is averaging 13.0 points, 5.0 assists, 3.2 rebounds and 1.9 steals as a starter in 2013-14. He leads the team with 120 assists on the year and in minutes played with an average of 36.1 per contest.
PARKER STEPPING UP
Sophomore Spencer Parker has stepped up his game thus far this season, as the forward is averaging 12.7 points and 5.2 rebounds per game on the year. Parker, who was thrust into the starting lineup in the second game of the season due to injuries, has scored in double figures in 19 contests for Bowling Green this year, including setting a career-high in points per game on four different occasions. He also has surpassed the 20 point mark three times this season. Parker is also second on the team and in the MAC in minutes played per game with 35.1 per contest.
PAINT PRESENCE
Head Coach Louis Orr's philosophy is always to play inside-out and the Falcons have done that well during his tenure. Over his last four-plus seasons, BGSU has scored 20 or more points in the paint in 134-of-157 games. BGSU has scored a high of 58 points in the paint twice during that span, including 58 points in a win versus Earlham in the season opener.
HISTORICAL ROAD WINS
With their back-to-back road wins at Western Michigan and at Ohio, the Falcons posted wins at Kalamazoo, Mich. and at Athens, Ohio for the first time in the same year since the 1990-91 season.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
In the last two years, the Stroh Center has proven to be a difficult place for opponents to play. The Falcons went 23-9 at home over the last two years, including posting a 3-0 mark at home in 2011-12 against teams that eventually went to the NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Falcons are 29-15 in the Stroh Center, which comes out to a .659 winning percentage.
THAT 70'S STROH
Bowling Green is 15-0 all-time when scoring at least 70 points in the Stroh Center. The Falcons reached 70 points at home four times this year, six times last season in 2012-13 and dropped 70 points or more five times in 2011-12.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
For the first time in over two years, the Falcons had two players each post a double-double in the same game. Richaun Holmes (16 points / 10 rebs.) and Jehvon Clarke (11 points / 11 rebs.) each posted a double-double for BGSU in the 74-68 win over Buffalo on Feb. 2.
ONE DIME SHY OF A TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Junior guard Jehvon Clarke posted his first career double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Buffalo on Feb. 2, but he was also only one assist shy of recording the first triple-double of his career as he dished out nine helpers in the win. The last Falcon to register a triple-double was Nate Miller against Buffalo back on Feb. 13, 2007.
CLEANING THE GLASS
Juniors Richaun Holmes and Jehvon Clarke became the first BGSU duo since 2011-12 to each post 10 rebounds or more in the same game. Both Holmes and Clarke had 10 rebounds apiece in the Falcons' win over Buffalo on Feb. 2. The last tandem to do that was Oglesby and Thomas against UTSA back on Jan. 1, 2012.
BLACK COLLECTS CAREER REBOUND NUMBER 500
Senior Cam Black grabbed six rebounds in the win at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, which allowed him to surpass the 500 career rebounds milestone.
BGSU'S HENDERSON EARNS MAC EAST DIVISION WEEKLY AWARD
Bowling Green's Anthony Henderson scored a career-high 27 points in the win over Western Michigan on Jan. 19 and was rewarded as the MAC East Division Men's Basketball Player of the Week on Jan. 20.

Redshirt-junior Anthony Henderson was named the Madness Mid-American Men's Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness (www.collegesportsmadness.com) on Monday, Jan. 20. The shooting guard averaged 20 points, a team-high, 1.5 rebounds, 2.5 steals and 1.5 assists on the week, as he shot over 52 percent (9-of-17) from behind the three-point line in 73 minutes of play.
NEW FACE ON THE BGSU ROSTER
Redshirt-senior Shaun Joplin (Sylvania, Ohio) joined the BGSU roster in Jan. 2014. Joplin was a four year letterwinner on the Falcons' football team and was a pivotal part of the BGSU MAC Championship run this past season.

Bowling Green State University's Richaun Holmes was tabbed the Madness Mid-American Men's Basketball Player of the Week by College Sports Madness (www.collegesportsmadness.com) on Dec. 16. Holmes registered back-to-back career-highs in blocked shots during the week, posting seven in both a home win over North Dakota and a road win at Morehead State. His seven blocks tied the school record for the most blocks in a single game and is the most by a BGSU player in a single game since Scott Vandermeer totaled seven versus Ohio back on Feb. 7, 2005.
HOLMES TABBED MAC EAST DIVISION PLAYER OF THE WEEK TWICE THIS SEASON
Bowling Green State University forward Richaun Holmes has twice been named the MAC Men's Basketball East Division Player of the Week. The junior received the weekly conference award back-to-back weeks on Dec. 9 and 16.
BLOCK HISTORY
The Falcons 14 total team blocks on Dec. 15 at Morehead State set a new BGSU single game record for the most blocks in a game. The previous record was 13 blocks, which BGSU set just one game earlier versus North Dakota on Dec. 11.
MUCH NEEDED ROAD WIN
The Falcons picked up its first road of the season on Dec. 15, as BGSU defeated Morehead State 67-61 in Morehead, Ky. The road win was the first non-conference road win for BGSU since a 61-53 win at FIU on Dec. 22, 2011 and is the first overall road win for the Falcons since last year, a 57-41 road win at Northern Illinois on Feb. 6, 2013.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE X TWO
Senior Cam Black posted two straight double-doubles in the Falcons two contests in Cancun, Mexico at the 2013 Cancun Challenge. The 6-10 center posted 12 points and 14 rebounds versus Presbyterian and then 10 points and 13 rebounds against Oral Roberts. With his second straight double-double, Black becomes the first Falcon to accomplish that feat since Nate Miller posted three-straight double-doubles in March of 2008.
WE'LL TAKE THAT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
The Falcons set a new school record for thefts as a team in a single game in its season opener versus Earlham, as BGSU recorded 22 steals overall for the game. Guards Jehvon Clarke and JD Tisdale each recorded six steals apiece, both career-highs.
RECORD SETTING SEASON OPENING WIN OVER EARLHAM
The 53-point win over Earlham was the largest margin of victory for a Falcons' team since BGSU defeated Urbana 114-52 back on Dec. 22, 1999. BGSU also reached the 100-point mark for the first time since defeating Urbana 103-78 back on Nov. 21, 2003. The Falcons had six players score in double figures in the season opening win for the first time since the Nov. 28, 2009 vs. Milwaukee.
FRESH FACES
BGSU head coach Louis Orr has four new players on the 2013-14 squad. JD Tisdale (Flint, Mich./Swartz Creek High School), Zack Denny (Germantown, Ohio/Valley View High School), and Garrett Mayleben (Milford, Ohio/Milford High School) will all join transfer Josh Gomez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Rice High School/Iona) among this year's incoming class.
FALCONS ACROSS THE COUNTRY
BGSU has played three games this year on Time Warner Cable Sports, per the Mid-American Conference regional television package. BGSU played at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, at home versus Miami (Ohio) on Jan. 25 and then once more at home against Akron on Feb. 9 on TWC Sports. The Falcons also played on ESPN3 vs. South Florida, at Wisconsin, at Western Michigan, and versus Akron, as well as twice on a Fox Sports Network affiliate in Fox Sports 1 at Xavier and Fox Sports Midwest Plus at Saint Louis. ESPN has also selected to air BGSU's game versus Toledo as its MAC Wildcard Selection on Feb. 20 at 9 p.m. on ESPNU.
MEDIA PICKS BOWLING GREEN SIXTH IN PRESEASON POLL
After graduating their top-two scorers, as well as three of its five starters, Bowling Green was selected to finish sixth in the Mid-American Conference East Division by vote of the league's MAC News Media. Akron was selected to win the East, followed by Buffalo, Ohio, Kent State, and Miami.
