LAST TIME THEY MET
Date: Jan. 25, 2014
Location: Bowling Green, Ohio (Stroh Center)
Score: Miami, 70-65
Notes: Despite a career-high 22 points from junior guard Jehvon Clarke, the BGSU men's basketball team had its winning streak snapped at three with a 70-65 home loss to Miami in the Stroh Center. BGSU hit 10 three-pointers, matching its season-high; however, the Falcons struggled at the free throw line where the home team was only 9-of-17 (52.9 percent). Miami, who connected on 22-of-26 (84.6 percent) shots from the charity stripe, also held an 18-5 advantage in points off turnovers as the Falcons coughed up the ball 14 times in the game. The Falcons, who had 16 assists in the contest, were led by Clarke's career-high 22 points and six assists, as the junior hit a career-high four three-pointers in 38 minutes of play. BGSU saw a tight game and a slight lead disappear early, as the RedHawks finished the opening half out on a 19-5 run to take a double digit lead en route to the win. The Falcons flew out to a quick 7-2 lead, yet watched as Miami cut the home team's lead to one at 7-6 with 16:04 to go in the opening half. Following a dunk from Richaun Holmes, which put BGSU in front by eight at 14-6 at the 12:54 mark, the offense came to a halt as the RedHawks soared back into the contest with a 9-3 surge to knot the score up at 17-17. BGSU answered with six straight points to push the home team up by six at 23-17. The Falcons then went ice cold from the floor offensively, as Miami finished the half out on a 19-5 run over the final five minutes of play to take an eight point lead at 36-28 into the halftime break. The home team would cut the Miami lead to five on three different occasions over the first eight minutes of the second half, yet saw the RedHawks answer with a field goal of its own each time. The Falcons fell down by just two at 47-45 with 9:30 to go in the game, only to see Miami answer with a 10-0 run over the next four minutes to pull out to a 57-47 lead with just over five minutes to go. BGSU refused to quit, as the Falcons would again cut the lead to five three more times over the next several minutes, only to continue to fight an uphill battle as the RedHawks went 6-of-6 from the free throw line during that span. Damarkeo Lyshe hit a three late to put the Falcons down just three at 68-65 with just over six seconds on the game clock. However, time would run out on BGSU, as Miami closed the game out with two straight free throws in the closing seconds to give the RedHawks the 70-65 MAC win.

# MAC Championship Tournament game
LAST TIME OUT
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Falcons had three players in double figures and outscored Toledo 35-21 in the second half, which included a 25-7 run, yet came up short in a 60-58 home loss on Thursday night in front of a packed house in the Stroh Center. Coming out of the halftime break down by 16 at 39-23, the Falcons watched a three-pointer from Julius Brown at the 17:14 mark of the second half put Toledo up by 19 at 42-23. Following a 30 second timeout by BGSU, the Falcons clamped down defensively and found some rhythm offensively, as a fast break layup from Anthony Henderson at the 15:44 mark kicked-off a 25-7 run by the home team over the next five minutes of play that saw BGSU get right back into the contest. During the run, the Falcons held Toledo to only one made field goal for close to a nine minute period to put BGSU down by single digits at 47-40. Minutes later, BGSU got another dunk from Richaun Holmes and a layup from Spencer Parker over the next two minutes to get within one point of the Rockets at 49-48 with just over eight minutes to play. Neither team would score over the next three minutes until a layup and an old-fashion three-point play by Brown ended the Rockets' field goal drought at the 5:28 mark and pushed Toledo's lead back out to four at 52-48. BGSU refused to quit, as Jehvon Clark answered with a three-pointer just over 30 seconds later to put the Falcons down just one once more at 52-51 with 4:56 to play. The next two minutes saw Toledo hit two free throws to extend its lead to three at 54-51, followed by a jumper in the lane from BGSU's Black to put the home team down one yet again at 54-53. Brown answered with a jumper of his own on the next possession to give Toledo breathing room once more at 56-53, yet the Falcons had an answer yet again, as exactly 30 seconds later Henderson nailed a trey from the right corner to knot the score up at 56-56 with 2:45 to go in the game. After a missed free throw by Toledo and a BGSU defensive stop, Black gave the Falcons a 57-56 lead, its first lead of the game since the opening bucket, on a made free throw with at the 1:40 mark. However, the second foul shot missed offline as Toledo hauled in the rebound and looked to retake the lead on its next offensive possession. The BGSU defense came up with a huge stop on a block from Holmes, which sent the Falcons on a fast break chance in which the home team missed the layup and gave the ball back to Toledo. Toledo's Brown hit a contested jumper to give the lead back to the visitors with 42 seconds to go in regulation. With yet another game coming down to the wire, the Falcons' Parker was fouled on an offensive rebound to go to the free throw line to shoot a 1-and-1. The leading free throw shooter for the Falcons hit the first shot to knot the score up at 58-58, but missed the backend of the 1-and-1 to give Toledo the ball with 12 seconds remaining. The Rockets pushed the ball up the floor off the rebound and moved the ball around the perimeter until it reached an open Rian Pierson on the left baseline who fired off a jumper in front of the Toledo bench which fell through the bottom of the net to put the visitors in front by two at 60-58 with 3.2 seconds on the game clock. BGSU called a timeout to set up one last play, as Clarke got a decent look from just over 30 feet out as time expired only to see it hit off the front rim, as Toledo escaped with a 60-58 road win.
BATTLE OF I-75 BRINGS IN A RECORD CROWD
Round two of the 2014 Battle of I-75 brought in a record crowd at the Stroh Center, as the Falcons played Toledo in front of a season-high 3,182 fans on Feb. 20. The 3,182 fans is the fourth largest crowd to watch a men's basketball game in the Stroh Center's young history.
HOLMES' HOUSE: ONE BLOCK AWAY FROM A NEW BGSU SEASON RECORD
Junior forward Richaun Holmes has totaled 73 blocks thus far this season and has posted five blocks or more in a single game six times this year. Last season, Holmes set a new BGSU single-season record with 73 blocks on the season overall and thus will set a new BGSU single-season record with his next block this year.
CLOSE CONTESTS
This season, BGSU has had 11 games decided by five points or less, including each of the last four games and seven of the Falcons' 13 MAC contests this season. In fact, each of the Falcons' last four games - vs. Akron, at Kent State, at Ball State and at home versus Toledo - have seen the outcome come down to the final seconds of the game.
LAST SECOND GUT WRENCHING LOSSES
In each of the last three Falcon losses (Akron, 65-63; Kent State, 62-61; Toledo, 60-58), Bowling Green has lost on a late jump shot in the closing seconds and final possession of the game. Akron hit the go-ahead shot with just over two seconds to play to defeat BGSU 65-63 on Feb. 9, while Kent State hit a three-pointer in the final second to escape the Falcons on Feb. 12, 62-61. On Feb. 20, Toledo hit a baseline jumper with 3.2 seconds on the game clock to defeat the Falcons 60-58.
FIVE MINUTE WARNING: FALCONS CLUTCH SHOOTING
The Falcons as a team are shooting 43.7 percent from the floor and 63.2 percent from the free throw line in clutch situations this season - For these purposes, clutch is defined as (a) the final five minutes of a game when the scoring differential is single digits at the time the shot was attempted OR (b) any overtime. Richaun Holmes leads the Falcons in shooting during these clutch situations with a 70.8 field goal percentage, while both he, Jehvon Clarke and Spencer Parker are all shooting over 66 percent from the free throw line during clutch time.
STARTERS SHOULDERING SCORING LOAD
The five starters for BGSU - Jehvon Clarke, Anthony Henderson, Spencer Parker, Richaun Holmes and Cameron Black - are shouldering most of the scoring load this season for the Falcons, as they combined are averaging 89.6 percent of the scoring for BGSU this season. The five starters have combined for a total of 1,485 points for BGSU this season, while the rest of the team has scored a total of 173 points. That is an average of just over 57.2 points per game for the starters and just under 6.7 points per contest from the non-starting five this season.
FOURS SCORES ... IN MAC PLAY
The Falcons have four players averaging double digit points thus far this year in MAC play. Jehvon Clarke (13.5), Richaun Holmes (13.1), Spencer Parker (12.5) and Anthony Henderson (11.9) are all averaging double figures in BGSU's 12 MAC games.
ORR'S MILESTONES IN WIN AT BALL STATE
Coach Louis Orr reached not one, but two milestones with the Falcons win at Ball State on Feb. 15. Orr posted his 100th win overall as the head coach at BGSU and also tallied the 200th win overall for his career as a head coach.
BUCKING THE TREND AS OF LATE
This season, the Falcons have been slow starters off of the opening tip, however, over the last two games BGSU has been bucking the trend. On Feb. 12 at Kent State, the Falcons started the game out on a 13-0 run, while on Feb. 15 at Ball State, BGSU opened the game up on an 8-0 run.
HOLMES' DUNK IN THE FIRST HALF VS. AKRON PLAY #2 ON ESPN'S WEEKEND TOP PLAYS
Richaun Holmes received a pass from Jehvon Clarke and drove the lane before throwing down a one-handed slam over Akron's Pat Forsythe at the 11:09 mark of the first half on Feb. 9. The dunk was featured on ESPN SportsCenter's Weekend Top-10 Plays later on that night as the No. 2 play.
DOUBLE DIGIT DEFICIT DISTRESSES
Bowling Green has proven to be a notoriously slow starting them this season, as the Falcons have fallen behind by double digits in 19 of its 26 contests this season. Oddly enough, when BGSU doesn't fall behind by double digits (7 times) the Falcons are 6-1 on the season. BGSU is just 5-14 in the 19 contests in which the orange and brown has trailed by double digits at some point in the game.
GETTING TO THE LINE
Aggressive play has aided the Falcons this season, as BGSU is 7-2 on the year when making more free throws than its opponent for the game. Overall BGSU is 57-21 under head coach Louis Orr when hitting more free throws than its foes over the last six + seasons.
70 IS THE MAGIC NUMBER
The magic number for the Falcons is 70 - as in 70 points per game. BGSU is 4-2 this season when scoring 70 points or more and 43-17 overall under head coach Louis Orr since his first year at BGSU in 2007-08. On the flip side, Bowling Green is only 7-13 this year when scoring less than 70 points and 59-69 overall during Orr's tenure when not amassing 70 points or more.
WORKING OVERTIME ON THE FLOOR
A number of BGSU players in Jehvon Clarke, Anthony Henderson, Richaun Holmes, Damarkeo Lyshe and Spencer Parker have all logged more minutes this season alone than they had for their entire careers prior to this year.
COMEBACK KIDS
In each of the Falcons last four wins - at Western Michigan, at Ohio, versus Buffalo at home and at Ball State - BGSU has overcome a deficit at some point in the contest. At Western Michigan, BGSU came back from a 15-point deficit in the second half to earn a 69-64 win. Versus Ohio, the Falcons overcame an 11 point first half lead to upend the Bobcats 58-56, and at home against Buffalo, BGSU overcame a 10 point first half deficit to storm back for a 74-68 win. Against Ball State, BGSU trailed by as much as three points less than two minutes to play in a 66-64 road win.
ROAD TRIUMPHS IN 2013-14
Bowling Green has posted four road wins this season - at Morehead State, at Western Michigan, at Ohio and at Ball State - which is four times as many true road wins than last season. Prior to last season, the Falcons won only four road games in each of the previous two years.
A BLOCK FOR BLACK & HOLMES - SHARPIE
You can sharpie in a block for both Cam Black and Richaun Holmes at the opening tip, as each Falcon big has posted at least one block in a game double digit times. Holmes has registered at least one block in 24 contests this season, while Black has recorded at least one swat in 20 different games on the year.
CHASING OTIS
Both Richaun Holmes and Cameron Black are chasing former Falcon Otis Polk for the most career blocks in BGSU men's basketball history. Polk's 159 career swats is 13 blocks ahead of Holmes who is in second-place overall with 146 career rejections. Black is only one spot behind Holmes with his 142 career blocks.
CLARKE LEADING BY EXAMPLE
Over the last eight games, Clarke has averaged 15.0 points, 5.8 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.6 steals per contest for the Falcons. The junior guard has scored in double figures in six of the last eight contests, including posting a career-high in points twice during that span.
ANT-THREE-NY ON FIRE SINCE KALAMAZOO
Since his break out game of 27 points in a win at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, shooting guard Anthony Henderson has been on a tear from behind the three-point line. Over his last 10 games, which includes the WMU win, Henderson has shot 50 percent from downtown, as he is 26-of-52 from long range.

2ND HALF > 1ST HALF
Bowling Green has proven to be a second half team this season, as the Falcons have scored 101 more points (877 > 776) over the final 20 minutes of play compared to the first 20 minutes of action so far this year. Four of BGSU's six lowest total points output per half this season (18, 19, 19, 21) have come in the first half of play.
KEEPERS OF THE RIM: BLOCK BROTHERS
BGSU's duo of Cam Black and Richaun Holmes continue to prove to be an effective last line of defense for the Falcons, as the tandem have combined for 113 blocks over the Falcons' 26 games this season. Both Holmes (146) and Black (142) are already in the top-three all-time at BGSU in career blocked shots.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK
The Falcons this season have had a balance scoring attack, as in 24 of their 26 games this season BGSU has had multiple players record double digit points. In fact, BGSU has had at least three different players post double digit points in 22 of those 24 contests this season, while six different players have registered double digit points in at least one game thus far this year.
BALANCED SCORING ATTACK: TAKE 5
BGSU has had all five starters score in double digits in three different contests this season (Earlham, Presbyterian, Morehead State), all of which were wins.
BREAK OUT SEASONS FOR THE FALCONS
BGSU has had a number of players already have break out seasons thus far in 2013-14, as seven different Falcons have recorded career-high's in points thus far this year with multiple players setting multiple career marks. Bowling Green has also seen a handful of players set career marks in other statistical categories such as rebounds, steals, assists, blocked shots and minutes played.
PARKER STEPPING UP
Sophomore Spencer Parker has stepped up his game thus far this season, as the forward is averaging 12.7 points and 5.3 rebounds per game on the year. Parker, who was thrust into the starting lineup in the second game of the season due to injuries, has scored in double figures in 20 contests for Bowling Green this year, including setting a career-high in points per game on four different occasions. He also has surpassed the 20 point mark four times this season. Parker is also second on the team and in the MAC in minutes played per game with 35.2 minutes per contest.
PAINT PRESENCE
Head Coach Louis Orr's philosophy is always to play inside-out and the Falcons have done that well during his tenure. Over his last four-plus seasons, BGSU has scored 20 or more points in the paint in 136-of-159 games. BGSU has scored a high of 58 points in the paint twice during that span, including 58 points in a win versus Earlham in the season opener.
HISTORICAL ROAD WINS
With their back-to-back road wins at Western Michigan and at Ohio, the Falcons posted wins at Kalamazoo, Mich. and at Athens, Ohio for the first time in the same year since the 1990-91 season.
HOME COURT ADVANTAGE
In the last two years, the Stroh Center has proven to be a difficult place for opponents to play. The Falcons went 23-9 at home over the last two years, including posting a 3-0 mark at home in 2011-12 against teams that eventually went to the NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Falcons are 29-16 in the Stroh Center, which comes out to a .644 winning percentage.
THAT 70'S STROH
Bowling Green is 15-0 all-time when scoring at least 70 points in the Stroh Center. The Falcons reached 70 points at home four times this year, six times last season in 2012-13 and dropped 70 points or more five times in 2011-12.
CAREER NIGHT IN BLACK'S FINAL HOMECOMING AT KENT STATE

THE BUCK STOPS AT 13 POINTS
The Falcons ran out to a 13 point lead to start the contest (13-0) at Kent State and then another 13 point lead at 40-27 to start the second half, yet could not extend the lead past 13 points as the Golden Flashes battled back to defeat BGSU 62-61 on a last second three-pointer.
DOUBLE TROUBLE
For the first time in over two years, the Falcons had two players each post a double-double in the same game. Richaun Holmes (16 points / 10 rebs.) and Jehvon Clarke (11 points / 11 rebs.) each posted a double-double for BGSU in the 74-68 win over Buffalo on Feb. 2.
ONE DIME SHY OF A TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Junior guard Jehvon Clarke posted his first career double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Buffalo on Feb. 2, but he was also only one assist shy of recording the first triple-double of his career as he dished out nine helpers in the win. The last Falcon to register a triple-double was Nate Miller against Buffalo back on Feb. 13, 2007.
CLEANING THE GLASS
Juniors Richaun Holmes and Jehvon Clarke became the first BGSU duo since 2011-12 to each post 10 rebounds or more in the same game. Both Holmes and Clarke had 10 rebounds apiece in the Falcons' win over Buffalo on Feb. 2. Holmes (11) and Cam Black (12) went on to post double digit rebounds in the Falcons' 66-64 win at Ball State on Feb. 15. The last tandem to do that prior to this season was Oglesby and Thomas against UTSA back on Jan. 1, 2012.
BLACK COLLECTS CAREER REBOUND NUMBER 500
Senior Cam Black grabbed six rebounds in the win at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, which allowed him to surpass the 500 career rebounds milestone.
NEW FACE ON THE BGSU ROSTER
Redshirt-senior Shaun Joplin (Sylvania, Ohio) joined the BGSU roster in Jan. 2014. Joplin was a four year letterwinner on the Falcons' football team and was a pivotal part of the BGSU MAC Championship run this past season.
BLOCK HISTORY
The Falcons 14 total team blocks on Dec. 15 at Morehead State set a new BGSU single game record for the most blocks in a game. The previous record was 13 blocks, which BGSU set just one game earlier versus North Dakota on Dec. 11.
MUCH NEEDED ROAD WIN
The Falcons picked up its first road of the season on Dec. 15, as BGSU defeated Morehead State 67-61 in Morehead, Ky. The road win was the first non-conference road win for BGSU since a 61-53 win at FIU on Dec. 22, 2011 and is the first overall road win for the Falcons since last year, a 57-41 road win at Northern Illinois on Feb. 6, 2013.
DOUBLE-DOUBLE X TWO
Senior Cam Black posted two straight double-doubles in the Falcons two contests in Cancun, Mexico at the 2013 Cancun Challenge. The 6-10 center posted 12 points and 14 rebounds versus Presbyterian and then 10 points and 13 rebounds against Oral Roberts. With his second straight double-double, Black becomes the first Falcon to accomplish that feat since Nate Miller posted three-straight double-doubles in March of 2008.
WE'LL TAKE THAT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH
The Falcons set a new school record for thefts as a team in a single game in its season opener versus Earlham, as BGSU recorded 22 steals overall for the game. Guards Jehvon Clarke and JD Tisdale each recorded six steals apiece, both career-highs.
RECORD SETTING SEASON OPENING WIN OVER EARLHAM
The 53-point win over Earlham was the largest margin of victory for a Falcons' team since BGSU defeated Urbana 114-52 back on Dec. 22, 1999. BGSU also reached the 100-point mark for the first time since defeating Urbana 103-78 back on Nov. 21, 2003. The Falcons had six players score in double figures in the season opening win for the first time since the Nov. 28, 2009 vs. Milwaukee.
FRESH FACES
BGSU head coach Louis Orr has four new players on the 2013-14 squad. JD Tisdale (Flint, Mich./Swartz Creek High School), Zack Denny (Germantown, Ohio/Valley View High School), and Garrett Mayleben (Milford, Ohio/Milford High School) will all join transfer Josh Gomez (Brooklyn, N.Y./Rice High School/Iona) among this year's incoming class.
