LAST TIME THEY MET
Date: Feb. 9, 2014
Location: Bowling Green, Ohio (Stroh Center)
Score: Akron, 65-63
Notes: BGSU's Jehvon Clarke banked in a three-pointer from the top of the key with 12 seconds left in the game to tie the score at 63-63, only to see Akron's Quincy Diggs sink a long jump shot on the ensuing possession with only four seconds remaining to send the Zips to a 65-63 win over the Falcons at the Stroh Center. BGSU erased a 14 point deficit to battle back and tie the game with just over 12 seconds to go in the game on a Clarke three-pointer and forced Akron to win the game as time ticked away in the contest. Coming out of the halftime break, in which the Zips led 35-26, Akron pushed its lead back out to 14 at 41-27 at the 18 minute mark of the second half. BGSU refused to quit and looked towards its defense to fuel its offense, as the home team bounced back with a 15-5 run over the next 5:30 of play to trim the Zips' lead to four at 46-42 with 12:33 to go in the game. After Akron pushed its lead back out to 10 at the 9:34 mark, BGSU again battled back with buckets to once again get within four points of Akron at 52-48 with 7:21 to play. Bowling Green would cut the Akron lead to three at 57-54 on a Cameron Black jump hook in the paint, before back-to-back free throws from Richaun Holmes placed the Falcons down just one at 57-56 with 3:10 on the game clock. Akron scored on a driving layup for the Zips on the next possession to give the Zips a three-point lead at 59-56, only to see BGSU answer with a free throw next time down to put the home team down just two at 59-57 with just over two minutes in regulation. Following a Diggs jumper, Spencer Parker hit two free throws to keep BGSU down just two as time ticked down to under a minute in the contest. With 46 seconds to play, the Zips got an offensive tip-in basket to put Akron back out in front by four and keep the Falcons out of reach of taking the lead on one possession. With less than a minute to play, Parker hit 1-of-2 free throws to put BGSU down three at 63-60. The Falcons were forced to foul on the next Akron possession to try to extend the game. Akron's Demetrius Treadwell missed the front end of a 1-and-1, while Holmes hauled in the missed shot. As time ticked down, BGSU looked to attempt to run a play when Clarke pulled up from the top of the key and banked in a three-pointer over an Akron defender to tie the score up at 63-63 with 12 seconds to play. The Zips pushed the ball up along the left sideline where Diggs faked a drive and pulled up for a jump shot just a foot inside the three-point line. The shot went through the net with just over four seconds to go in the game giving Akron a 65-63 lead. BGSU's last chance heave at the buzzer went wide of the basket, as Akron escaped with the two point win.

LAST TIME OUT
Bowling Green, Ohio – BGSU held the Kent State Golden Flashes to 34.9 percent shooting and only three fast break points in a 73-66 MAC East win at home in the Stroh Center on Wednesday night in which the Falcons never trailed in the entire 40 minute contest. BGSU held Kent State to eight made field goals (8-of-27) in the first half of play and only 22-of-63 (34.9 percent) shooting for the game, while posting nine blocks in the victory. The Falcons took advantage of its size early in the contest to put the home team up 4-0 early and then 8-5 with 16:50 to go in the opening half. Kent State tied the score up at 9-9 on two straight free throws at the 12:44 mark, only to see the Falcons knock down back-to-back jump shots to push its lead back out to four at 13-9 with 10:35 to go before the halftime break. Four straight points from the Golden Flashes tied the score up again at 13-13, yet the Falcons again had an answer, as back-to-back free throws and a layup down low pushed BGSU in front by four once more, this time at 17-13. After a three-pointer gave the Falcons its largest lead of the first half at seven at 22-15, the Golden Flashes used a 5-1 run over the next two minutes to cut the BGSU lead to three at 22-19 at the 4:59 mark. The Golden Flashes got nine of its 26 points from the free throw line over the first 20 minutes of play and got to within three points at 29-26 with less than a minute to go in the first. BGSU finished the last five minutes of the half with a 9-7 edge in points to hold on to the lead and take a 31-26 advantage into the halftime break. The Falcons, who shot 55 percent (11-of-20) overall in the second half of play, picked up where they left off in the first half, scoring nine points over the first 3:38 of the second period to take a 41-30 lead. Kent State would hit a three-pointer minutes later to cut the Falcons' lead back down to single digits at eight at 41-33, yet BGSU's defense continued to make stops to allow the home team to extend its lead back out to 12 at 46-34 and once more at 48-36 on a Richaun Holmes rebound and put back with 12:18 to play in the contest. Another three-pointer from Kent State kick started an 8-0 surge for the Golden Flashes who trimmed the BGSU lead down to four at 48-44 with just over 10 minutes on the game clock. After back-to-back layups pushed the Falcons back out in front by eight at 52-44, the Golden Flashes again refused to go away, this time answering with three free throws and another long three to get to within three at 53-50 with 5:32 to play. That would be as close as Kent State would get for the remainder of the contest, as the Falcons answered with a 7-0 run to take a 10 point lead at 60-50 with 3:19 on the scoreboard. A Kent State jumper did nothing to slow down the BGSU offense, as BGSU followed with two straight free throws before a steal and breakaway two-handed slam put the home team in front by 12 at 64-52. Five straight points from Kent State and three consecutive missed free throws by BGSU allowed the Golden Flashes to again climb back into the game, trimming the BGSU lead to seven at 64-57 with 1:21 to play. After two BGSU free throws, Kent State picked ran off five more points to get to within four at 66-62 with 45 seconds left in the contest. Refusing to let the lead slip away, BGSU's Spencer Parker and Jehvon Clarke combined to make 7-of-8 free throws over the final 45 seconds of play to help seal the 73-66 home win.

BUCKING THE TREND AS OF LATE
This season, the Falcons have been slow starters off of the opening tip, however, over four out of their last five games BGSU has been bucking the trend. On Feb. 12 at Kent State, the Falcons started the game out on a 13-0 run, while on Feb. 15 at Ball State, BGSU opened the game up on an 8-0 run. BGSU is 5-2 this season when scoring 70 points or more and 44-17 overall under head coach Louis Orr since his first year at BGSU in 2007-08. On the flip side, Bowling Green is only 7-14 this year when scoring less than 70 points and 59-70 overall during Orr's tenure when not amassing 70 points or more.

ANT-THREE-NY ON FIRE SINCE KALAMAZOO
Since his break out game of 27 points in a win at Western Michigan on Jan. 19, shooting guard Anthony Henderson has been on a tear from behind the three-point line. Over his last 11 games, which includes the WMU win, Henderson has shot 48.3 percent from downtown, as he is 28-of-58 from long range.
2ND HALF > 1ST HALF

Four of BGSU's six lowest total points output per half this season (18, 19, 19, 21) have come in the first half of play.
KEEPERS OF THE RIM: BLOCK BROTHERS

PARKER STEPPING UP
Sophomore Spencer Parker has stepped up his game thus far this season, as the forward is averaging 12.9 points and 5.3 rebounds per game on the year. Parker, who was thrust into the starting lineup in the second game of the season due to injuries, has scored in double figures in 22 contests for Bowling Green this year, including setting a career-high in points per game on four different occasions. He also has surpassed the 20 point mark four times this season. Parker is also second on the team and in the MAC in minutes played per game with 35.2 minutes per contest.
PAINT PRESENCE
Head Coach Louis Orr's philosophy is always to play inside-out and the Falcons have done that well during his tenure. Over his last four-plus seasons, BGSU has scored 20 or more points in the paint in 138-of-161 games. BGSU has scored a high of 58 points in the paint twice during that span, including 58 points in a win versus Earlham in the season opener.

The Falcons went 23-9 at home over the last two years, including posting a 3-0 mark at home in 2011-12 against teams that eventually went to the NCAA Tournament. Overall, the Falcons are 30-16 in the Stroh Center, which comes out to a .652 winning percentage.

ONE DIME SHY OF A TRIPLE-DOUBLE
Junior guard Jehvon Clarke posted his first career double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds in the win over Buffalo on Feb. 2, but he was also only one assist shy of recording the first triple-double of his career as he dished out nine helpers in the win. The Falcons picked up its first road of the season on Dec. 15, as BGSU defeated Morehead State 67-61 in Morehead, Ky.
