Falcon senior earns league honor for third time this season
BGSU has picked up a MAC Player-of-the-Week honor on five occasions this season. Rogers also earned the honor on both Dec. 23 and Jan. 6, with Erica Donovan being named MAC P-O-W in between those two Rogers recognitions (Dec. 30). Senior Jillian Halfhill was named league player of the week on Nov. 25.
Rogers, a native of West Chester, Ohio (Lakota West H.S.), averaged 21.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game as the Falcons posted a pair of road wins over Ohio and Toledo last week.
Rogers had a game-high 20 points, along with seven rebounds, in the Falcons' 78-62 win victory at Ohio on Thursday night (Jan. 30). She also had five assists, setting a new career high, in the victory. Her three-point field goal with 6:51 remaining gave the Falcons the lead for good, and she was 11-of-12 from the free-throw line in the win.
On Sunday (Feb. 2), Rogers had a double-double, leading all players with 22 points and 12 rebounds, in BG's 66-59 win at Toledo. Rogers had 16 of her points in the second half as the Brown and Orange again erased a halftime deficit, and she tied her career best by making three three-point field goals.
On the week, Rogers shot 52.4% from the field, going 11-of-21. She hit 4-of-10 three-pointers (40%), and went 16-of-21 (76.2%) at the free-throw line.
On the season, Rogers is averaging a team-leading 14.3 points, along with 8.4 rebounds. She is shooting 52.8% from the floor, leading the Falcons and ranking second in the conference in that category. In MAC games only, she has 16.7 points and 9.4 boards per game.
Rogers was named the MAC Player of the Week for the East Division, while Central Michigan's Jas'Mine Bracey earned this week's MAC P-O-W award for the West Division.
The Falcons are 18-3 overall and 8-1 in the MAC heading into a Wednesday (Feb. 5) game vs. Western Michigan. The game, which begins at 7:00 p.m. at the Stroh Center, is the Falcons' annual Play 4Kay game in support of breast cancer awareness. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game, and every fan in attendance will receive a pink rally towel, courtesy of Kroger.
