Akron Invite Day One Results
Akron, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University track and field team did something rare Friday during the opening day of the Akron Invitational. Every Falcon student-athlete who competed set a new personal best as BGSU got the weekend started with a bang.
Three long jumpers all set new PRs and Krystin Reiser did the same in the pentathlon, shattering her previous career-high score. The Falcons also had five throwers compete in the discus, an event seldom contested in an indoor meet.
A trio of long jumpers got the Falcons rolling Friday, led by senior Dana Gates. She placed third in the event with a jump of 17-feet-11, which was more than eight inches further than her season best and surpassed her personal best of 17-9.75 set at the MAC Championships a year ago.
Freshmen Connor Kempf and Raven Porter also hit for collegiate career longs. Kempf placed fifth at 17-9, more than a foot further than she previously leaped this year. Porter had a jump of 17-4.75, which just barely surpassed her best of 17-4.25.
The attention then turned to the junior Reiser in the pentathlon. Among the 16 competitors who took part in the test of endurance, Reiser placed in the top four in three of the five events and finished fourth overall with 3,438 points. That total is 163 points more than her previous best of 3,275, set during the season opener in December. And that total was more than 400 points better than she scored a year ago.
Reiser scored at least 750 points in three of the events, leading with 796 in the 60 hurdles, running the race in 9.56 seconds. She also high jumped 5-4.25 and ran the 800 in 2:25.39.
Bowling Green also had five student-athletes compete in the discus, an event that is traditionally contested during the outdoor season, but not indoor. Freshman Makenzie Wheat placed third in the blue division with a team-best throw of 134-8.
BGSU will be back in action for day two of the Akron Invitational Saturday at 9 am.
