Falcons Close Successful Weekend At Akron Invite
February 08, 2014 | Women's Track and Field
Akron, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University indoor track and field team won two events and set numerous personal bests on the final day of the Akron Invitational Saturday.
The meet was broken up into blue and gold divisions, with the gold being limited to those athletes who met more stringent qualification standards.
Freshman Lindsay Kaatz won the mile in the blue division, setting a personal best time of 5:14.98. Senior Tina Perrine placed first in the weight throw in the blue division, also setting a personal best with a throw of 60-feet-4. It is the second consecutive weekend in which she has set a PR in the event.
While those were the only two Falcon victories, BGSU did impress in numerous events. Senior Jeanette Pettigrew placed second in the prelims in the 60 gold division and finished third in the finals with a time of 7.64 seconds.
Brooke Pleger competed in the gold division of the weight throw and set a new personal best with a toss of 62-5.75. That is more than seven inches further than her previous best this year. The 1600 relay team of Pettigrew, Brittany Sinclair, Demetra Taylor and Gabrielle Edwards ran a season best time of 3:50.34, while both Maria Meredith and Rachel Durbin set new PRs in the 800. Durbin ran a 2:18.31 in the gold division and Meredith was at 2:20.75 in the blue.
Tiera Parker competed in the gold division triple jump and ended fifth with a career-best jump of 38-4.25, less than three inches shy of the Mid-American Conference automatic qualifying mark. Earlier in the day, Kelsey Cogan opened the meet for the Falcons with a personal best time of 19:55.71 in the 5000.
Bowling Green will close out the regular season for indoor track and field next weekend when the team competes at the GVSU Big Meet Friday and Saturday.
