Men’s Golf Set to Compete at the 2014 Desert Shootout

Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will return to the links for action this week, Thursday thru Saturday, as the Falcons will compete at the 2014 Desert Shootout hosted by Kansas State University on Mach 20-22 in Goodyear, Ariz.
The 15-team field will participate in a 54-hole tournament to be played on the par-72, 7,015-yard Palm Valley Country Club golf course in Goodyear, Ariz. The teams and individuals will play 18 holes on Thursday, March 20, beginning with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. (PT), and continuing with shotgun starts on Friday, March 21, 8 a.m. (PT), and Saturday, March 22, 7:30 a.m. (PT). The low four individuals' scores will determine the team score for each round.
The tournament field includes Bowling Green, BYU, Cal State Fullerton, Columbia, Creighton, Denver, Drake, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Kansas, Kansas State, Kansas City, Long Beach State, Nebraska, Northern Iowa and Southern Utah.
Head Coach Kevin Farrell will send a familiar lineup out for the Falcons this week in Jose Narro, Brett Rinker, Chris Melvin, Ryan Triller and Joe Cooper, who all led Bowling Green to a 10th-place team finish last time out at the 2014 Samford Intercollegiate back on March 3-4.
Narro, who led BGSU after round one of play with a 75 on Monday morning at the Samford Intercollegiate, struggled with an 87 second round score, before bouncing back with a final round 77 to finish in a tie at 53rd-place overall with a combined score of 239, +23.
Rinker, who paced the Falcons last time out in Alabama, finished in a tie for 22nd-place overall with his combined three-round score of 229, +13. Rinker carded rounds of 77, 78 and 74 to lead the Falcons.
Both Melvin and Cooper finished tied for 43rd-place overall with an identical score of 236, +20, at the Samford Intercollegiate. Cooper posted rounds of 76, 85 and 75 over his three rounds of play, while Melvin bounced back from a first round 84 on Monday morning to post two straight 76's over his next 36 holes for his final score of 236.
Triller recovered from a first round 91 to shoot a 77 and 78 over the next two rounds to finish with a combined score of 246, +30, and a 76th-place finish, last time out for the Falcons.
This is the third of six scheduled spring events for the Falcons this season with it all culminating at the 2014 MAC Championships on May 1-3.
