Narro and Melvin Pace Falcons on Day One of 2014 Desert Shootout

Goodyear, Ariz. – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team was led by a freshman and a senior on day one of the 2014 Desert Shootout on Thursday, as the Falcons carded a team score of 305, +17, over the first 18 holes of play at the Palm Valley Country Club golf course in Goodyear, Ariz.
The first round team score of 305, +17, has the Falcons in 15th-place overall. BGSU is only three strokes behind Creighton (302, +14) and is 12 strokes behind Columbia (293, +5), who is in 13th overall.
For the second consecutive tournament, freshman Jose Narro led the Falcons with a solid first round, as he carded a BGSU low round 74, +2, over the first 18 holes of play on Thursday.
Behind Narro was senior Chris Melvin, who turned in a first round score of 76, +4, and junior Joe Cooper, who posted a round of 77, +5.
Rounding out the scoring for the Falcons on day one was freshman Brett Rinker and junior Ryan Triller who each shot a 78, +6, on Thursday.
Nebraska of the Big Ten leads the tournament after day one with a team score of 282, -6 under par, as the Huskies are one stroke ahead of BYU (283, -5 under par) and two strokes in front of UM-Kansas City (284, -4 under par).
The second round of play will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. PT on Friday morning. The Falcons are slated to start on the back nine on holes 15-18.
