Falcons To Send Three To NCAA Regionals
March 24, 2014 | Gymnastics
Indianapolis, Ind. – The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) today announced the NCAA Gymnastics Regional qualifiers. Alyssa Nocella, Gina Locigno and Megan Harrington will all represent the Falcons in the all-around. MAC Freshman of the Year Lauren Feely is an alternate in both the all-around competition and the vault. BGSU's student-athletes will compete in the Baton Rouge Regional, hosted by LSU.
"I am so pleased Alyssa, Gina and Megan have the opportunity to compete at the NCAA regional competition in the all-around," BGSU Head Coach Kerrie Turner said. "All three have experience in the postseason and I know they are focused on competing well and working towards NCAA Nationals. LSU is an outstanding venue and we look forward to representing BGSU well throughout the NCAA post-season."
The NCAA announced the qualifiers for each of the six regional sites that include six teams, five all-around competitors and one specialist per event at each site, based on regional qualifying scores (RQS).
LSU, Stanford, Auburn, Arizona, Kent State and Iowa State are the six teams represented at the Baton Rouge regional and Nocella, Locigno and Harrington make up three of the five all-around individuals. Michigan State's Alina Cartwright and Lisa Burt round out the list. Feely is the first alternate at the site. Feely is also the first alternate on vault as Western Michigan's Jessi Buis earned the lone individual qualification on the event.
Harrington will make her third consecutive trip to NCAA Regionals in the all-around, while Nocella has now qualified for the all-around in each of her first two years at BGSU. Locigno, a junior, returns to the NCAA Regionals after qualifying as a freshman in the all-around.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will receive an automatic berth to the national championships in Birmingham, Ala., April 18-20. As well, any individual event winner if not on a qualifying team will advance.
