Frank Named MAC East Pitcher Of The Week
March 31, 2014 | Baseball
CLEVELAND, Ohio—The Mid-American Conference office announced the players and pitchers of the week on Monday morning, with Bowling Green's Mike Frank taking home MAC East Pitcher of the Week honors.
Frank dominated Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon, as he helped the Falcons bounce back from a 9-0 loss to the Huskies on Friday night by shutting down the NIU offense. The right-handed pitcher from Maumee, Ohio held a no-hitter into the sixth inning, surrendering just one hit in seven innings of work. The lone run that Frank gave up was unearned, as an error opened the door for an NIU base runner. The decision earned Frank his first win of the season, as he moved up in the career annals for innings pitched and strikeouts. He is now third all-time for most innings pitched in a career at BGSU (260.2) and seventh for strikeouts (181).
It is the second time this season that a Falcon has earned Pitcher of the Week honors, after Brett Fitzwater and Chris Miller earned co-Pitchers of the Week for their combined no-hitter effort two weeks ago.
The Falcons will return to action on Wednesday night, when they travel to University of Cincinnati for a midweek matchup with the Bearcats. Bowling Green and UC will square off at Marge Schott Stadium at 6:00 p.m. Then, the Falcons will continue Mid-American Conference play this weekend when they are expected to travel to Western Michigan on Friday for the beginning of a three-game series.
