Falcons Clinch MAC Tournament Berth As Rain Suspends Thursday Game At Buffalo
May 15, 2014 | Baseball
AMHERST, N.Y. - Thursday's game between Bowling Green and Buffalo was suspended in the top of the eighth, but the Falcons were still able to clinch their spot in next week's Mid American Conference Tournament with a Toledo loss to Eastern Michigan. Battling rainy conditions all afternoon, both pitchers were in control early on.
Buffalo would break the tie in the bottom of the third, getting three straight hits with two outs to grab a 3-0 advantage. The Bulls would take a 5-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth, as they would follow a leadoff hit by pitch with a home run to left-center field.
The Falcons would get on the board in the top of the sixth, as designated hitter Matt Smith would single to right field with one out in the inning. Brian Bien would bloop a single down the right field line, and a Buffalo error would allow Smith to score all the way from first.
The Bulls would extend the lead in the bottom of the seventh with a double down the left field line. Tony Landi would work out of the inning, but the umpires would call for the field to be covered with the tarp after the final out in the seventh.
The two teams will resume Thursday's suspended game on Friday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. Following the conclusion of the first game, the two teams will play Friday's regularly scheduled game.
