BGSU Men’s Golf In Sixth Heading Into Sunday’s Final Round of Play

Carmel, Ind. – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team carded a team score of 309 on Saturday over the third round of play to put themselves in sixth-place overall heading into the fourth and final round of play on Sunday, May 4, at the 2014 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships hosted by Toledo at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana.
BGSU's 309, +21, on Saturday, coupled with its rounds of 296 and 295 yesterday, places the Falcons in sixth-place overall out of the nine team field with a 54-hole team score of 900, +36. The Falcons are five strokes ahead of seventh-place Miami (905, +41) and only eight strokes behind fifth-place Ball State (892, +28).
Freshman Brett Rinker remained in the top-10 after his third round of play, as he shot a 77, +5, on Saturday to drop two spots and into a tie for seventh-place overall. After totaling seven pars over the first two rounds of play on Friday, Rinker failed to record a birdie on Saturday as he heads into Sunday's final round with a combined score of 219, +3 (73, 69 and 77).
Making the biggest leap up the leaderboard for the Falcons on day two was junior Ryan Triller who turned in a round of 74, +2, with three birdies to move up to a tie for 25th-place overall. Triller's rounds of 76, 77 and 74 give him a combined 54-hole score of 227, +11.
Senior Chris Melvin struggled on Saturday, as he registered a third round 84, +12, to drop him into a tie for 30th-place with a three-round combined score of 229, +13 (72, 73 and 84).
With his third round 78, +6, junior Joe Cooper is one stroke back of Melvin at 230, +14 (75, 77 and 78) which puts him in a tie for 33rd overall, while Jose Narro's 80, +8, on Saturday, gives him rounds of 76, 76 and 80 to place him in 37th-place with a three-round combined score of 232, +16.
Kent State (852, -12) turned in a tournament low round of 282, -6 under par, on Saturday to extend its lead to 23 strokes over second-place Akron (875, +11).
Toledo (876, +12), Eastern Michigan (887, +23) and Ball State (892, +28) round out the top-five on the team leaderboard after three rounds of play.
The Golden Flashes' Corey Conners (204, -12) leads the tournament field, as he is six shots in front of fellow teammate Taylor Pendrith who is in second-place with his 54-hole score of 210, -6 under par.
The final round of play is set for a 7:30 a.m. start time on Sunday morning.
