BGSU's four signees get it done on the court

Each of the Falcons' four newcomers earned all-state honors during their senior year, and the quartet combined to help their teams to an overall mark of 92-16 during the 2013-14 season.
"Our staff is looking forward to the arrival of the Class of 2018 along with our returners for the start of summer school on June 30," said BGSU head coach Jennifer Roos. "Once again, we will be allowed to practice with our entire team this summer. We are pleased that the four newcomers had such successful senior seasons, and we look forward to getting them acclimated with their new teammates here at BGSU."

Sarah Baer (Perrysburg, Ohio) was named the Northern Lakes League Player of the Year, and earned All-Ohio Second-Team honors for the second consecutive season. Baer averaged a double-double as Perrysburg H.S. went 22-4 on the year and posted a second-straight 14-0 mark in the NLL. Baer averaged 17.0 points and 11.9 rebounds per game, and had a double-double in 21 of the team's 26 games on the year. She set school records for rebounds in a game (24) and a season (309) along with highest rebounds-per-game average in a season. Baer also broke the school record for blocks in a career, with 143. She shot 56 percent from the field as a senior, and was chosen to play in the Ohio North-South All-Star game in Columbus in late April.
Rachel Myers (Findlay, Ohio) was named the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association's Division III Player of the Year in her senior campaign at Liberty-Benton H.S. She earned all-league, all-district and All-Ohio honors in both basketball and volleyball in 2013-14. Myers was named the Blanchard Valley Conference Player of the Year on the hardwood as a senior, and also earned District P-O-Y honors after averaging 23.8 points per game. She led the conference in scoring, three-point field-goal percentage and free-throw pct., shooting a school-record 46.7% from behind the arc and 86.2% from the stripe. Myers, who reached the 1,000-point mark during her junior season, finished her career ranked fifth in scoring in school history, with 1,643 points for the Eagles. She set the school record for career three-pointers made, with 216. LBHS went 22-3 overall and a perfect 9-0 in the BVC in 2013-14. Myers helped the Eagles to sectional championships in all four of her seasons and district titles in the last three. Like Baer, Myers played in the Ohio North-South All-Star game in late April. Myers was named her class valedictorian.

Lauren Webb (Vernon Hills, Ill.) was an all-state fourth-team selection for Vernon Hills H.S. as a senior, despite missing much of the season due to injury. Webb averaged 13.9 points and 4.3 rebounds on the year. The Cougars had a 26-6 overall record and advanced to the sectional finals in 2013-14. Webb earned all-area honors from both the Daily Herald and the Pioneer Press, and she also received All-North Suburban Conference accolades. Webb surpassed the 1,000-point plateau mark during her junior season, and -- despite missing 18 of the Cougars' first 19 games in '13-14 -- finished her four-year varsity career with 1,205 points and 558 rebounds. Vernon Hills lost only one game with Webb on the court during her senior year.
As mentioned, the four freshmen will join their new teammates at BGSU at the end of June.
"Not only is summer school a great opportunity to get ahead with academic course work, but it is the unofficial start to the 2014-15 season," said Roos. "The team will begin to create their identity for the upcoming season."
The Falcons went 30-5 overall, winning the MAC's regular-season title with a 17-1 league record as Roos earned conference and region coach-of-the-year honors. BGSU won more than 20 games for the 11th consecutive season, a MAC record, and the Falcons became only the second team in MAC history to win as many as 30 games in a season (joining the 2006-07 BGSU team). BG advanced to national postseason play for the 10th consecutive year, qualifying for the WNIT, and the Falcons won three national postseason games in a season for the first time in program history, before losing to eventual tournament champion Rutgers in the quarterfinal round.
