Falcons Add Pair Of Junior College Transfers
July 29, 2014 | Softball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University softball coach Shannon Salsburg has announced the addition of two junior college players for the 2015 season. Marina Cobbs comes to Bowling Green after spending two years at Tallahassee Community College, while Molly Holliday will play for the Falcons after two seasons at Weatherford College.
"I am thrilled to have Marina and Molly join our softball family," Salsburg said. "Both players have proven themselves in the junior college ranks. They both bring speed and strong offensive skills to our team and I expect both to compete immediately for a starting role."
Cobbs, the daughter of Jose and Suzanne Cobbs, hails originally from Cantonment, Fla. She hit .313 with 34 stolen bases in 40 attempts and seven triples during her two seasons as an outfielder at Tallahassee Community College. Her team went 41-14 in 2014, adding an 18-4 conference record and advancing to the NJCAA Division I Softball National Championship.
"Marina is a fantastic addition to our softball family," Salsburg said. "She is a lefty slapper who can hit just as well as she slaps. That versatility will keep our opponents guessing and open up the offense for us as a team. I look forward to getting her to campus this fall."
Holliday, the daughter of Valerie and Donald Holliday, hails from Bosque Farms, N.M. She hit .366 during her two seasons at Weatherford College with 77 runs scored and 41 stolen bases. Her squads went a combined 72-29 in two years.
"I am really excited to add Molly to our softball family this fall," Salsburg said. "She is a very athletic outfielder who is flat-out fast. She looks to use her speed to frustrate defenses and I expect her to be a strong table-setter for our offense. Molly is a strong outfielder who will vie for a starting job from day one."
BGSU Softball graduates just two seniors from a team that went 23-28-1 during the 2014 season, with a 9-11 record in Mid-American Conference play.
