Complete Schedule
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's and women's cross country teams have announced the 2014 fall schedule in preparation for the MAC Championships Nov. 1 at Mt. Pleasant, Mich.
"We are all excited to start the season," BGSU cross country coach Lou Snelling said. "On the women's side, everyone is returning from our squad that competed in the MAC Championships. On top of that, we have a large group coming off of redshirting last fall and we have an exciting recruiting class."
"Our men's program is excited to see what we have this fall," Eric Thatcher, who oversees the men's cross country program said. "With over half the roster starting their first season, we expect the depth chart to be wide open with inexperienced guys seizing opportunities to be early contributors to our future success. Our two upperclassmen who have been with us for more than a year will be expected to set an example of the work ethic necessary to compete at the MAC level. Above all, our goal this season will be to set the foundation for the successful program we are striving to become."
BGSU will open the season on Friday, Aug. 29 at the Toledo Invitational. The Falcons will then host their only home meet of the season two weeks later with the annual Mel Brodt Collegiate Invitational Sept. 12 at 6:30 pm. The course winds through Forest Creason Golf Course on the campus of BGSU.
The teams are then scheduled to compete in the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville University Oct. 3 the day before the Louisville Cross Country Classic Oct. 4. The regular season winds down at the Indiana State Pre-National meet on Oct. 18 – the same course on which the NCAA National Championships will be contested. The MAC Championships begin the postseason Nov. 1 before the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Madison, Wisc. Nov. 14. The NCAA Championships are Nov. 22.
"The goal of our schedule and training is to maximize our chance for success in November," Snelling said. "Everything we do in August, September and October revolves around that goal. Our two early season meets will be a good opportunity to judge fitness during this important training period. The meets in October will be a true test against some of the best in the region and the country. The championship portion of our season starts with the MAC Championships and that is where we get to see all the hard work start to pay off."
The Bowling Green women's cross country team placed sixth out of 12 teams at the MAC Championships a year ago, the team's best finish since 2008. The men's team placed ninth at the conference meet with a youthful squad.
