Swim and Dive Hosts Annual Tom Stubbs Relays
September 30, 2014 | Women's Swimming & Diving
Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University swimming and diving team hosts the annual Tom Stubbs Relays Oct. 3 at 4 p.m to kick off the 2014-15 regular season. The Falcons welcome Youngstown State and Findlay, as well as Mid-American Conference members Toledo and Akron.
Fifteen minutes prior to the start of the meet, there will be a brief recognition of donors who supported the video scoreboard project. This meet is also a Ziggy points event, so students are encouraged to attend.
The meet features 10 relay events, including the 200 and 400 medley relay, 3x100 butterfly, 3x100 backstroke, 3x100 breaststroke, 3x500 freestyle, 4x100 individual medley and the 200, 400 and 800 freestyle relays.
"We are excited to welcome four other teams on campus and host this great event," Head Coach Petra Martin said. "It will be an exciting evening full of fast swimming and fun events for the fans. We are looking forward to starting to test the MAC competition as Akron and Toledo will be both racing along with Youngstown and Findlay. This meet is a great way to break everyone into the season and get into a racing mode."
At last season's Tom Stubbs Relay, the team posted four wins in 10 relay events. The wins were in the 200 medley relay, 800 freestyle relay, 200 freestyle relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
One week ago the team held its annual intrasquad meet, where Orange defeated the Brown team, 127.5-112.5. Sophomore Victoria Griffin won four events, newcomer Estela Davis won three, and juniors Jordan Bullock and Daniela Carrillo each finished first in two.
The Falcons return to action at Cooper Pool Saturday morning at 9:30 a.m. for the Jean Campbell Alumni meet. Along with the swimming events, the divers will be competing in a 1-meter and 3-meter competition.
"The alumni meet is always so much fun and we can't wait to have our alums back on campus and take on the current team," Martin said. "The competition always gets heated as our alums certainly have not lost their competitive drive. It's great for the current athletes to connect with their predecessors and get a little taste of the BGSU Swimming and Diving history. The meet is part of a full list of weekend events for our alumni, we are looking forward to spending time with them in the pool and at the various social events during the weekend."
BGSU takes on fellow MAC member Ball State on Oct. 24 at home.
