Falcons receive one first-place vote in preseason poll.
CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University gymnastics team was picked to finish second – along with Kent State – in the Mid-American Conference in 2015, as voted on by league coaches. The conference announced the preseason poll Saturday (Jan. 3) afternoon.
Central Michigan – who received five first-place votes – is tabbed to win the conference, while Bowling Green and Kent State picked up one first-place vote apiece. Northern Illinois and Eastern Michigan follow, with Ball State and Western Michigan bringing up the rear.
The Orange and Brown were picked to finish third last season, and fourth in 2013. The Falcons – who placed third at last year's MAC Championships, which was the best finish for the program in 22 years – return two All-MAC selections to this year's team in junior Alyssa Nocella and sophomore Lauren Feely. The 2014 MAC vault champion, senior Amanda Lievendag, also returns to a squad that is welcoming in eight true freshmen.
Senior Jamilah Ali – the 2013 MAC vault champion – will also compete for head coach Kerrie Turner, who was named the conference's coach of the year that same season. Another senior – Gina Locigno – enters her final year as a Falcon having qualified for the NCAA regionals in two of the pervious three seasons.
Bowling Green officially opens the gymnastics season on Jan. 10 at 2 p.m. against Michigan State at Anderson Arena.
