Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team heads to Chicago, Ill. for the UIC Invite. The Falcons will begin play Friday at 9 am at the Flames Tennis Facility.
The invite is comprised of five teams including BGSU. The Orange and Brown will be going up against Valparaiso, UIC, Northern Illinois and Milwaukee.
"We are looking forward to getting back to action this weekend in Chicago at the UIC Invite," head coach Olga Elkin said. "The girls have competed very well this fall and this will give us another opportunity to grow and prepare for the spring."
The Falcons have competed at Chicago State University's Cougar Invite and the BGSU Invitational for the fall portion of their schedule. So far the team has three flight titles and has battled in four championships.
Freshman Polina Radeva leads singles play with a 5-1 record for BG. Radeva went undefeated at the CSU Cougar Invite clinching the top flight championship title. She was dominating singles at the BGSU Invitational until being defeated in the top flight championship, giving her her first and only loss this season.
Also in singles play with a 4-2 record are sophomore Emily Witt and freshman Paula Comella Aguilo. Witt, after having successful weekends at both the Cougar Invite and BGSU Invite, was defeated in the flight championships at each tournament. Aguilo, who went 2-1 at CSU, won three more matches for the flight championship at the BGSU Invite.
In doubles, Drew Fillis and Aguilo lead the way with a 5-1 record. The duo won the northeast semifinals at CSU, they then went undefeated at the BGSU Invite, blowing through the competition to win the doubles flight championship. Radeva and Witt follow closely behind with a 4-2 record. They were defeated at CSU in the flight championship after having a great weekend and took third at the BG Invite.
