BGSU Completes First Day At ITA Regionals

ITA Regional Championships Day One

Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Bowling Green State University women's tennis team traveled to the University of Michigan for the ITA Regionals Thursday. The first and second qualifying rounds of singles play were held Thursday morning and afternoon.

Two Falcons advanced to the second round, freshmen Paula Comella Aguilo and Polina Radeva.

Aguilo defeated CSU's Morgan Nix in two sets winning 6-1, 6-2. She was defeated by Katji Fevralev of Western Michigan in the second round 3-6, 6-2, 7-5.

Radeva took on Anna Veleva of Eastern Michigan, losing the first set 4-6 but rallying to win the match 6-0, 6-2. In the second round she fell to Illinois' Daniela Pedraza Novak 6-1, 6-3.

Both senior Drew Fillis and sophomore Emily Witt were defeated in the first round. Witt, lost 6-1, 6-2 to DePaul's Jarrett Fisher. Fillis was beaten by Milwaukee's Laurie Clark 6-2, 6-1.

The qualifying singles round of 16 will begin at 9 am Friday (eight players will qualify for main draw) with main draw doubles to follow at 2pm.
