October 05, 2015 | Women's Soccer
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University's Lauren Cadel was named the Mid-American Conference Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league office this afternoon. Cadel has won the award three times in her career and twice this season.
The Ontario, Canada native helped Bowling Green to a 2-0 record this weekend against MAC opponents Akron and Buffalo, allowing just one goal in 180 minutes of action on the pitch. In the team's 3-0 shutout over the Zips on Friday, Cadel tallied nine saves. In the 69th minute of play, Cadel recorded huge back-to-back stops on two Akron shots as the Zips were looking to get on the board. Both shots came in high, requiring Cadel to fully extend, blocking the ball over the top of the crossbar.
This was the redshirt junior's fourth shutout of the season.
On Sunday against defending MAC champion Buffalo, she recorded five saves to keep her team in the contest. Early in the second period, UB fired off a shot appearing to get passed Cadel, but she spun around and knocked the attempt away just before it crossed the left side goal line for one of her five saves.
Cadel now has 67 saves on the season with a save percentage of .827 and a goals against average of 1.24. The Falcons hold a 2-2 record in conference play for the first time since 2010.
Most recently, Cadel received the award on Sept. 14, 2015 for setting a school record with a career-high 19 saves in Bowling Green's double-overtime draw with Valparaiso. It was her first double-digit save of the season.
