Bowling Green, Ohio – First-year BGSU men's basketball head coach Michael Huger and his 2015-16 Falcons will host the Falcons of Notre Dame College in exhibition play on Friday, Nov. 6, at 6 p.m. ET in the Stroh Center as a final tune up for the upcoming Centennial Season set to tip-off at home on Nov. 14 versus New Orleans in the regular season opener.
"We are excited to get a chance to play a game and compete against someone other than ourselves this weekend," stated Coach Huger. "Our guys have worked hard this preseason in practice and I'm pleased with where we are at in terms of learning the new offense and defense, and our style of play. This exhibition game gives us a chance to put into play what we have worked on for the last month in practice and for us to see what we need to improve on heading into the season opener on Nov. 14."
Bowling Green, who will be celebrating its Centennial Season all year long, return three starters from last year's 21 win team in Spencer Parker, Zack Denny and David Joseph, as well as a number of experienced returners in upperclassmen Josh Gomez, Brand Busuttil, and JD Tisdale, and redshirt-sophomore Garrett Mayleben and sophomore Matt Fox who all saw playing time off the bench for BGSU last season.
The Falcons lost 63 percent of their scoring from last season headlined by the trio of Richaun Holmes, Jehvon Clarke and Anthony Henderson, and will look to a handful of newcomers in Wes Alcegaire, Ismail Ali, Demajeo Wiggins, Antwon Lillard and Malik Hluchoweckyj, as well as redshirt-freshman Rasheed Worrell who sat out of at last year, to help contribute immediately for Coach Huger and his staff this season.
Picked to finish sixth in the MAC East Division by the MAC Men's Basketball Preseason Media Poll, the Falcons will open up the regular season slate on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 2 p.m. versus New Orleans before welcoming the Cincinnati Bearcats to the Stroh Center on Wednesday night, Nov. 18, at 7 p.m. for the second annual Bill Frack Challenge.
On top of the Bill Frack Challenge game on Nov. 18, the Falcons will also host non-conference games against Urbana (Nov. 29), UMBC (Dec. 2), Drake (Dec. 5) and Oakland City (Jan. 2), before opening the MAC season at home versus Miami (Ohio) on Jan. 6 and Central Michigan on Jan. 9.
The Falcons will also play host to the Battle of I-75 on Jan. 19, before holding the Centennial Game on Jan. 23 versus Kent State at 4 p.m. ET in the Stroh Center.
The home slate will then continue with contests versus Ball State (Feb. 2), Akron (Feb. 9), Western Michigan (Feb. 13), Ohio (Feb. 23) and Buffalo on Senior Night (Mar. 4).
Members of the Mountain East Conference, the Notre Dame College Falcons were picked to finish seventh overall in the MEC preseason coaches' poll, but did receive one first place vote.
NDC is coming off a strong 2014-15 season, where they finished 16-14 overall, and 11-11 in the MEC. The NDC Falcons were one of the best teams at home, as they went 11-3 at Murphy Gymnasium.
NDC will return four starters from a season ago, including senior guard Tyree Gaiter, who earned Second Team All MEC honors last season, and Second Team All Atlantic Region honors as well. Gaiter was named a preseason All American by the Sporting News for the 2015-16 season.
The Orange and Brown defeated NDC 88-64 in the two teams' exhibition contest last season on Nov. 7, 2014 at the Stroh Center.
