Cape Girardeau, Mo. – The Falcons shot 55.2 percent from the floor overall and dished out 23 assists, as BGSU led from start to finish in a 79-52 road win over Southeast Missouri State University on Tuesday night inside the Show Me Center in Cape Girardeau, Mo.
The win is the sixth straight for the Falcons, which is the longest winning streak for a BGSU team since the Falcons won six straight games back in 2008-09.
BGSU had a total of 10 players score in the contest and were led by Zack Denny and Spencer Parker who tied for the game-high with 18 points apiece. Denny was 7-of-14 overall and 4-of-8 from behind the three-point line for his 18 points and seven rebounds, while Parker was 8-of-13 overall and 2-of-3 from the charity stripe for 18 points and four rebounds.
Junior Wes Alcegaire finished with nine points, while David Joseph posted eight points, six assists and two steals. Off the bench, Ismail Ali had six points and a game-high nine assists, while freshman Antwon Lillard chipped in with seven points and four rebounds.
Bowling Green, who outscored SEMO 44-32 in points in the paint and 19-10 in points off turnovers, was 32-of-58 (55.2 percent) from the field overall and 10-of-18 (55.6 percent) from behind the three-point line in the win.
The Falcons' defense held the Redhawks to just 22-of-69 (31.9 percent) overall and 3-of-17 (17.6 percent) as a team from long distance.
Guard Isiah Jones led the Redhawks with 12 points, while Antonius Cleveland finished with 10 rebounds and eight points, as he was just 3-of-16 shooting on the night.
The Falcons opened the scoring on a torrid pace, as the visitors got a corner three-ball from Alcegaire less than a minute into the game to start a 12-4 run off the opening tip which included baskets from Joseph, Denny and Parker over the first six minutes of the contest.
SEMO answered with an old-fashion three-point play from Cleveland and a steal and fast break layup from Eric McGill to close the gap to three at 12-9 with 12:32 to go in the opening half of play.
A free throw from Lillard snapped the SEMO run at 5-0, only to see a drive down the right side of the lane by Ladarius Coleman put the Redhawks within a basket at 13-11 at the 12:03 mark of the first half.
Lillard would pick up two straight layups against the SEMO zone, as the Falcons used an 11-4 spurt to pull back out in front by nine at 24-15 on an alley-oop layup basket over the top of the zone from Joseph to Denny with 6:31 to go in the first half.
After a dunk and a three-pointer from SEMO trimmed the Falcons lead to four at 24-20 with 5:43 to go in the first half, the Falcons notched up the intensity on both ends of the floor to go on an 11-0 run to take a 35-20 lead off a three-ball from Denny, a fast break layup by JD Tisdale and an offensive rebound and put back basket by Rasheed Worrell with just over two minutes to go before the halftime break.
SEMO's Ladarius Coleman hit a jumper to end the BGSU run at the 2:06 mark of the opening half, yet neither team would score over the next two minutes of the contest to give the Falcons a 35-22 lead at the halftime break.
The two teams went two-for-two and three-for-three to start the second half until a second Jones' three-pointer from SEMO cut the Falcons' lead down to 10 at 40-30 with 17:33 to go in the contest.
Following an Alcegaire trey to extend the Falcons' lead back to 13 at 43-30, the two teams continued to go back-and-forth, basket for basket, with the visitors in orange connecting on three more three-pointers over the next five minutes to push the BGSU lead out to 17 at 59-39 with 11:15 remaining in regulation.
Four layups by Parker over the next several minutes nullified a SEMO jumper from Jones and gave the Orange and Brown its largest lead of the game at 21 points, as BGSU lead 64-43 with 7:03 left on the game clock.
Looking to close the game out strong, BGSU refused to let up on both ends of the floor and finished the game out on a 15-9 run, highlighted by a two-handed slam down the lane from Worrell, an offensive rebound and put back basket by Malik Hluchoweckyj and three-balls from Ali and Matt Fox, to propel the lead out to as much as 28 points on the way to the 79-52 non-conference road win.
Bowling Green (7-2) will stay on the road to take on Detroit in non-conference play on Saturday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. at Calihan Hall in Detroit, Mich.
