Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green men's and women's cross country teams were named 2014 All-Academic teams by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as announced Wednesday.
To receive All-Academic team honors, a team must record a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or greater. The men's team finished the fall semester with a 3.47 GPA and the women's team compiled a cumulative 3.67.
"Having both programs ranked top 25 in the country really speaks to the time and effort these student-athletes are putting in the classroom," said head coach Lou Snelling
. "We have been able to get the team environment to a place where academics at the highest level is a priority. It is a great atmosphere to be a part of."
The women have the 20th highest team GPA of all Division I schools and the highest in the Mid-American Conference.
"It has been our goal since I arrived to have the highest team GPA in the MAC. It is no coincidence that as the team performance has improved our GPA has as well. I am beyond proud of the team for the work they have put in to make this finally happen," Snelling said.
The men's team cumulative GPA ranks second highest in the conference, just behind Akron.
Both Falcon teams made positive strides in the league this season. The women return all runners next season and the men graduate one senior.
