BGSU closes season with Sunday match at EMU
Host Ball State University defeated the Bowling Green State University tennis team by a 7-0 count Friday afternoon (April 17). The Mid-American Conference match was held at the Cardinal Creek Tennis Center.
For the second time in as many matches and the fourth time this season, the Falcons were unable to field a full lineup due to injuries. BGSU forfeited the matches at the third doubles and sixth singles flights.
In doubles play, BSU's nationally-ranked team of Rosalinda Calderon and Courtney Earnest defeated sophomore Harley Hutchison and freshman Megan Miller by a 6-1 count at the number-one flight. Sophomore Antonina Farrar and freshman Emily Witt competed for the Brown and Orange at the second flight, but their match vs. Ashlyn Rang and Toni Ormond was halted once the top-flight doubles match ended.
In singles play, the Cards swept each of the five matches that took place. BG's lineup included Miller at the top flight, with Hutchison, Witt, Farrar and freshman Sydney Seeley competing at flights two through five, respectively.
"We saw good energy from the girls today," said head coach Olga Elkin. "We are ready to have a great practice tomorrow and hopefully finish out the season on Sunday with a win."
The Falcons will close the 2014-15 season on Sunday (April 19), taking on Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti. That match is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m. at the Claudia Wasik Tennis Complex.
