Lebanon, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University women's golf team will host the 2015 Mid-American Conference Women's Golf Championship on April 24-25 at the par 72, 6,191-yards Shaker Run Golf Club in Lebanon, Ohio.
The three-day, 54-hole, championship event will tee-off on Friday, April 24, and will conclude with the final round of play on Sunday, April 26. Each round of play will begin with an 8 a.m. tee-time off of hole No. 1 and will consist of 18 holes of play.
"It's a privilege and honor to be hosting the MAC Championship at Shaker Run," commented BGSU head coach Stephanie Young. "It's going to be an exciting week of golf. Our team is ready for the challenge ahead!"
A total of 10 teams will be vying for the conference championship title this year in the 2014 defending MAC Champions Kent State, Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Ohio, Northern Illinois, Toledo and Western Michigan.
Coach Young will field a very experienced lineup for the Falcons this weekend at the 2015 MAC Championship with the BGSU golfers combining to have played in nine total conference tournaments, including four players who competed for the Falcons at the championship tournament last year.
Senior Shelby Wilson will be playing in her fourth MAC Championship this week, as the Texas native finished in a tie for 37th-place overall in 2014, in a tie for 16th-place in 2013 and in a tie for 28th-place overall in 2012. Wilson, who ranks 12th in the MAC overall on the year with a team-low stroke average of 77.00, has posted five top-15 finishes on the year and is coming off a 13th-place finish at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational with a 36-hole score of 154, +10. She has twice finished in the top-five, posting fourth-place finishes at both the Golden Grizzlies Invitational and the Bearcat Classic, and has carded a low round 72 on the spring season.
Also teeing-off in her fourth MAC Championship will be Patricia Holt, as the senior has improved her finish each and every year at the conference championship event with a 42nd-place finish as a freshman in 2012, a 33rd-place showing as a sophomore in 2013 and a 14th-place finish as a junior in 2014. Holt, who led the Falcons at last year's conference tournament with a 54-hole score of 233, +17, ranks second on the team and in the top-25 in the MAC with her stroke average of 77.94 on the year. She has posted a low round 72 thus far this spring season and has placed in the top-15 in four different events this year, including a season best seventh-place finish at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational.
Playing perhaps her best golf in her young BGSU career, Mikayla Baer will be entering her second MAC Championship event having recorded back-to-back top-five finishes in each of her last two times out this April for the Falcons. The sophomore, who is third on the team with a stroke average of 78.00 on the year, is coming off a third-place finish at the EKU Colonel Classic and a fifth-place showing at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational. Over her last three rounds of play, Baer has registered scores of 75, 74 and 76, with the 74 matching her season low. Last year as a freshman, Baer had a strong second round 75 at the 2014 MAC Championships en route to a 54-hole score of 243, +27, and in a tie for 32nd-place overall.
Making her conference tournament debut this year will be Hannah Lewis. Lewis, who posted a 13th-place finish at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational in Sept., has twice carded a low round 72 on the year. The 2015 MAC Championship will mark the ninth tournament for the junior on the year, as she has totaled a stroke average of 79.35 over 17 rounds of play overall in 2014-15.
Having placed in 12th-place overall at the 2013 MAC Championship tournament and 27th at last year's conference event, junior Lily Bartell will be playing in her third straight MAC Championship event this weekend. Bartell, who has totaled 17 rounds of golf this season for the Falcons, is coming off an 18th-place finish at the Dolores Black Falcon Invitational with a 36-hole score of 157, +13.
The Falcons as a team will look to improve on their eighth-place finish at the 2014 MAC Championship one year ago, in which BGSU finished with team rounds of 330, 306 and 323 for a final team score of 959, +95.
BGSU's best team finish in the MAC Championship event was a fifth-place finish in both 2000 and 2001, while the Falcons have ended the tournament in sixth-place overall on four different occasions with the last being in 2013.
